I called my niece a little while ago for information regarding the venue where X-Ball Detroit will be held. She advised me "well, auntie, you know it's 18 and up", to which I replied, "that's probably the usual age, but the event I plan to attend may start at age 21". She asked what type of event it was and I hemmed and hawed a bit. She asked "is it a fetish thing"? My mouth dropped open. Now granted, my niece is 27 years old and has a child but I still think of her as the "little one" I helped raise. When I hesitantly said, um yes, she said "auntie, don't worry, just because I don't broadcast my business throughout the family, I have a lot of interests". She went on to say "I wish I had known you were into that sort of thing because I couldn't find anyone to attend the function with me last year." This entire conversation has totally blown me out of the water!! I'm drinking a glass of wine trying to get myself together. Yes, I may be overreacting, but if you knew the type of family I have, they would probably stone both of us for attending, let alone enjoying BDSM and D/s (she also confirmed that she's a switch). So, I said all that to ask: Have you guys had any family members that have also been involved in the "lifestyle" but kept it hush hush because they didn't want to be judged? Were you in shock when you discovered you had the same interests? Were you a bit pissed that they found out at a much younger age than you (I'm sorta envious cause I just found out about D/s and BDSM a year ago). By the way, she may be able to join us next weekend at the Ball. It may be a bit weird at first, but I have to remember she's an adult. I'll just finish sippin my wine.....
