Thadius -> The 527s are hard at work. (7/24/2008 6:47:23 PM)

Well the first real 527 ad I have seen this season (since the 2 presumptive nominees have been selected) finally came across my television.  Figured we could discuss them and provide links to any others might make for a decent discussion through Nov.

So here is the one I just saw.... it makes for an interesting ad, and apparently is the first ever to run on MTV.

It may be out of order for me to point this out, but have you taken over from celticlord as the new Obama obsessed collarchat poster?

Nope... just found a few interesting things to bring up today.  I am interested in seeing 527 ads against McCain as well.  You know what they say, the more you know.....

They are not regulated by the FEC, and are allowed to spend as much as they want on ads as long as they aren't working with either campaign to make the ad.  They are generally grassroots non-profits, setup by partisans or special interest groups to express their points of view without being held to the same spending regulations as a campaign.  I think Code Pink and Move-on are also 527 groups, not sure on their status.

Groups formed to run ads about a campaign/candidate without an 'official' connection...often attack ads.

Thanks. Geez, i have a degree in political science and i don't even know that one... talk about jargon infesting common discourse [:'(]

i watch very little TV, so i've been missing out, apparently... hell, i never even saw a swift boat ad. Guess it's only appropriate since i'll be throwing my vote away [8|]
