But Barack Obama is still so much more out of touch with America! John McCain doesn't actually need to know what Americans are doing in order to govern America! I think my American Experience is much closer to that of a withering, wealthy, 78 year old man who married into wealth. But he looks like he could be part of my family, so I think I'll vote for him anyway, since he's so non-threatening.

McCain 2008!

That has got to be one of the lamest reasons to vote for somebody I have ever heard

IIRC, Western Union discontinued their Telegram service a few years ago.

Well, he IS trying... they said this week that he's trying to learn how to get on the internet all by himself...

Every morning, John McCain gets on his steam powered, penny farthing bicycle, and gets to his office where his staff has installed a "computing engine" for him to practice upon, and after making a few calls by cranking the side of his phone, sits down and tries to figure out where the knife switch is to supply "electricity" to the machine. He then waits for the blinking lights to come on, (computing machines all have banks of blinking lights) and be sure that it doesn't explode or begin saying "That does not compute" (like in all the movie serials) If all is well, he will look around the desk for a stack of punch cards to put into it, and then attempt to connect it to the "vast series of tubes" that is the internet.

African American President is fears from the dark ages.   Think on that one.  McCain served his country well, but has no clue what to do now, and knows it.

I can think of a few other people that don't know how to find information on the internet...

In that same interview, he said the following.

Mr. McCain said he did not use a BlackBerry, though he regularly reads messages on those of his aides. “I don’t e-mail, I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail,” Mr. McCain said.

There is something to be said for somebody that prefers to speak to people via voice, or face to face, instead of via e-mail.

"There is something to be said for somebody that prefers to speak to people via voice, or face to face, instead of via e-mail. "

Yeah,.....quaint.Like the Geneva Conventions and Habeas Corpus.

It this case though,it`s a lack of experience and curiosity.

Which is true for most of the GOP,it seems.Every time Bush or a neo-con got in trouble with the facts or history,it was usually a frick`n google search that tripped them up.

You`d think that someone would catch on and do a little research before making an announcement.

I don`t think it`s cute that he`s out of touch.Not endearaing,not funny or attractive,not special.

What percentage of folks over the age of say 50 are computer literate?

Oh let's also not forget the fact that he is taking action to become more computer friendly.

My comment about folks that don't know how to look things up on the internet, was more pointed than it appeared.  I was referring to the situation that you prefer to argue from a position that you are 100% correct, without providing sources, and choose to suggest that your opinions are facts.  I hope this makes it a bit more clear as to my meaning.

Then again the anonymous nature of the internet allows some people to express things simply to get a reaction out of others, without there being any personal consequences...  Rhetoric and name calling does not make a point more accurate, it only detracts from the point trying to be made.

slvemike4u -> RE: John McCain is more comfortable with sending a telegram than an e-mail. (7/25/2008 6:41:44 AM)

The fact that McCain's computer or blackberry skills might not measure up has actually very little to do with whether or not he would make a good President. One could assume competent people could be hired to streamline and manage his day once in Office...the constant carping about his computer literacy is ridiculous and serves no point other than to denigrate the man needlessly.

camille65 -> RE: John McCain is more comfortable with sending a telegram than an e-mail. (7/25/2008 6:46:59 AM)

One would also assume that the President would have a staff to Google stuff for him. Honestly this just makes me laugh, being internet savvy doesn't connect in my mind with the ability to be President. It is way way down there on my list of requirements.

Owner59 -> RE: John McCain is more comfortable with sending a telegram than an e-mail. (7/25/2008 6:51:31 AM)

We`re just tease`n.

However,he should avoid trying to make it seem cute or a positive, that he`s computer illiterate.

If you do that, you`re going to get teased.

~That fancy, fangled, new contraption called the "internetz",I hear there`s rumors on it .~

Couldn't agree more Camille,a grasp of the issues would seem to be far more important than the medium used to gather the information...

This makes no sense to me, you claim on one hand Obama is out of touch as a negative, then McCain does not need to "know"what Americans are doing as a positive???

WTF

Sadly, there are plenty of people afaid of the thought of a black person being president.

Now, I'm  not voting for McCain, but I wouldn't go so far as to call him clueless.

My mother didn't get into computers until she was 55; at 73 both my parents can at least send emails back and forth to their friends & family.  Same goes for a bunch of my other relatives north of 55.

What took McCain so long to "start getting familiar"?  I figure that if you're president, you'll have info coming at you like a fricken fire hose!  It doesn't seem practical to not have basic email skills down.

See, I don't get this...  he may prefer to use his staffers to keep him up to date at briefings rather than sitting behind a computer checking emails.  I don't see a problem with that.  My mom, in her 60's, keeps up very well with the computer, but I know she values face-to-face communication more than emailing.
