Is he just a serial liar, I wonder?

He doesn't seem smart enough to realize that things he says as a presidential candidate will  undergo intense scrutiny, that he's not in the junior league now.

It's not just this, it's one thing after another with him.

It is definitely becoming a pattern with him.  Not only is he not on the committee http://banking.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Information.Membership but the other part of the statement of "we passed" implies that he  had a role in getting it passed out of the committee... he had nothing to do with that either.

I was going to wait for the prObama folks to try and clarify this one with the "What he meant was, it was his bill" defense, and it has already started out there in blog land.... the simple fact is, it wasn't even his bill.

The bill he introduced on Divestment in Iran, hasn't had any action on it since May of 2007
quote:

S.1430
Title: A bill to authorize State and local governments to direct divestiture from, and prevent investment in, companies with investments of $20,000,000 or more in Iran's energy sector, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Sen Obama, Barack [IL] (introduced 5/17/2007)      Cosponsors (35)
Related Bills: H.R.2347
Latest Major Action: 5/17/2007 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

This one goes a bit passed the lines of the gaffes about how and when his parents met, or his uncle liberating Auschwitz.  This one was a clear attempt at deceiving the audience he was speaking to, in order to appear more sincere when questioned on his changing positions... Here is the context of the question and answer.  It wasn't a misstatement this is an outright lie.

quote:

Q: Senator Obama, you said in the AIPAC convention that a(n) undivided Jerusalem (would continue) to be the capital city of Israel, and then you changed it and clarified later on -- (off mike). How can we (assure) your other statements -- (off mike) -- and you're not going to change (these) when you're president of the United States?

SEN. OBAMA: First of all, I didn't change my statement. I continue to say that Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel. And I have said that before and I will say it again. And I also have said that it is important that we don't simply slice the city in half, but I've also said that that's a final status issue. That's an issue that has to be dealt with with the parties involved, the Palestinians and the Israelis, and it's not the job of the United States to dictate the form in which that will take, but rather to support the efforts that are being made right now to resolve these very difficult issues that have a long history.
Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don't have to just look at my words. You can look at my deeds. Just this past -- this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon. When Israel invaded Lebanon in response to the kidnapping of Israel's soldiers, I was one of the first people to state that Israel had a(n) unequivocal right to defend itself and to rescue soldiers that have been captured, and that is what any country would do.

emphasis mine

It is indeed one unpresidential thing after the other with Obama...one elitist narcissist denial, obfuscation, gross misrepresentation and/or outright lie after the other.

The absolute gall of him to proclaim he wasn't there, Berlin, as a candidate for POTUS but, rather, as a citizen.  The ONLY reason he went on his entire trip was to counter the fact that he has no experience with foreign affairs or national security and, IMHO, giving a speach and having one brief meeting with various foreign and/or military leaders does not counter that fact.

NObama, ever.

It is a worthy gesture--won't change much but it is a worthy gesture.

It is also non sequitur.  No matter how good an idea it is, it doesn't get Obama a seat on the Banking Committee.  That was a lie.  A stupid lie.  A pointless lie.  But still a lie.

I want a President with more skill at lying than that.  If you're going to lie, make it a good lie and at least get some tangible benefit from the lie.  Obama fails that test miserably.

And? Where in that article did Obama obtain a seat on the Banking Committee?

Granted, when one has never done anything but give flowery speeches, the urge to pad the resume must seem overpowering, but shouldn't we at least demand better creativity about it?
