Alumbrado -> For evil to triumph (7/25/2008 5:52:19 PM)

.....good people need say nothing, to paraphrase Burke.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080725/ap_on_re_us/immigrant_killing_students

Three white teens were charged Friday in what officials said was an epithet-filled fatal beating of an illegal Mexican immigrant in a small northeast Pennsylvania coal town. Brandon J. Piekarsky, 16, and Colin J. Walsh, 17, were charged as adults with homicide and ethnic intimidation in the July 12 attack on Luis Ramirez.
A third teen, Derrick M. Donchak, 18, was charged with aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation and other offenses. All are from Shenandoah, where the attack occurred.

Somewhere along the line, somebody taught these kids, and countless other perpetrators of similar acts, that it was OK...

OK to laugh when someone they considered influential looked around to see who was listening and slipped the 'N' word into a polemic rant.

OK to sneer knowingly at the 'watermelon', and 'gook' and 'basketball' references, and the 'Leroy', and 'Coletrane' jibes.

OK to pass that Chick publication, or that copy of the Turner diaries, or that Mudoven CD under the desk.

OK to throw that half full beer can at the human target from the speeding car or pickup.

OK to play all the little games that make the slope more slippery.... like calling a middle aged man with a law degree and a seat in Congress, a 'boy'.
Or pretending that anyone who gets offended by extremist propaganda is playing the race card.
Or passing StormFront off as a rational place for discourse about how white people are victims.

So yeah, just sit there and say nothing...after all what harm could it cause?

So young, and they're already so fucked up: I just hope this thread doesn't degenerate into a rant of justifications for this despicable act because the victim was an 'illegal alien'. As if it justified the violence, somehow...

I hate this kind of story.  It just makes me feel so sad and hopeless for the human race.  I didn't recognize a few of your references ... Turner diaries ... Mudoven ... Stormfront.  I don't know if that makes me sheltered or fortunate.

Both would be my guess.  I would lean toward fortunate.

Evil will always triumph, because Good is dumb.

Charging them with "Ethnic Intimidation" seems kind of silly when they're also being charged with murder (yes, i'm aware of how the legal system works, it still sounds damned silly)

The Man has family in Shenandoah. There's a good reason the only times he goes back is for funerals.

And yeah, he says those little coal towns haven't changed in 50 years. Unfortunately.

We from the other parts of PA refer to that northeast coal area as "The land that time forgot." Of course...one of our own senators said about PA "It's Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Alabama in between."

~fr~

The teams are truth and deceit, not good and evil; mark one for deceit.
Words are groups of letters whose meanings only hold the weight given to them by the person(s) using and or receiving, each of their own, and without truth mean nothing; mark two for deceit.
Thinking that the biggest instigating factor in situations like this is a few words; mark three for deceit.

Seems to me, the problem is more of a saying too much or, not enough truth in what is being said.

How do we get man to see it is he that pulls himself apart, and desire to put himself back together?

Two points, when someone committs a violent crime they should be charged as an adult.  And alcohol was a contributing factor, according to the last paragraph.  No surprise there.

Pennsylvania is one of the most notoriously racist states in the nation.  Go out to Carlisle and see how many Stars-and-Bars bumper stickers you see.  To me, it's especially offensive in a state that must have lost thousands of soldiers in the Civil War.

Great areas for dunebuggying in the old coal/shale hill towns though. [:)]

I couldn't bring myself to the grim task of totaling the list but here it is:
