the article struck a good chord with me but i would never consider it to be what a woman "needs". i find it to be more accurate in describing the some of the obscure qualities in a a woman that has truly lived life and learned lifes lessons. it isn't what is "needed" to make a woman. but the word "freedom" used to head the article does allow for the growth of such qualities in a "mature woman".
it takes freedom to learn from lifes lessons. freedom from worry of others judgement. freedom from the standards placed on each of us in our many different "roles" in life. setting our own standards rather than society's standard or the general consensus of "outsiders". example.... when i became a new mom, it was frowned upon that i actually stayed home and reared the um's, folks around me insisted that i wasn't contributing to an already comfortable household. same women that gave me shit for it, did the same exact thing once they became mothers. but never did they apologize for their judgements or cruel behaviour or words once the shoe was on their foot. nor did i expect it from them. why? i knew that they lacked maturity and grace and that some day they will gain those attributes. to me, they were childish women with preconcieved notions. life has given them new perspective. that is only one of many examples that i can provide.
i think this is the point of the article. it isn't an agenda, it is a small insight into the characteristics of what makes a woman a "woman" and it is only the tip of iceburg. but i agree that everything in the article is NOT what a woman "NEEDS", to be a woman. i do agree that it is freedom that a woman needs to become a woman to her full potential. and yes, it can be achieved with grace and class and dignity that just makes her stand out among other women.
a woman that is sheltered and subdued however isn't any less a woman, her experiences are still there, just hidden from the judgement of others and hers is a silent growth coming from the inside out.
nobody wants "labels". life is full of them and the PC just need to freaking get over the damned PCness of everything!
this could be a beautiful long debate on the quality of women or a huge flamefest in the way that i have been seeing it so far. i've gotta go to work for the next 12 hours...lol, lets see what happens while i am gone. and if we want to talk about the positive qualities of men why not start a different thread. to say that feminine qualities are the same as masculine qualities is just out and out bullshit. to say there is no balance between the two is also bullshit. i'm not saying that each is withouth both characteristics but folks need to get a grip. vive la differance!
