This is an interesting experiment and the blog will have space for commentary on travel destinations.

"The gasoline alternative is called biodiesel, and it's made from a mixture of diesel gasoline and vegetable oil, such as soy or corn. The vegetable oil is nontoxic and biodegradable.

The only thing that scares me about this type of technology (which I am actually in favor of), is the same effect that mandating the use of ethanol is having.  What regulations are going to be put in place to make sure that corn and soy are still available for food consumption, when a farmer can potentially make more by growing fuel crops?

This one is a two sided sword.

          I'm right there with you on drawing our fuel feedstock from the food supply, but bio-diesel is a technology I think is going to do very well.

Bio diesel is not available around us.  It is not widely available.  I do know several people using it though.  Mixing it up in their garages.
I know a guy who can drive all week long to work...about 40 miles each way for about 3.25 a week.  At least the last time I talked to him that's how much it was costing him.  About 3 month's ago.
He basically gets his oil from a fast food place...adds what he needs.  Its an idea..imagine if you could get the McDonalds contract for their used oil?  You could open up your own bio diesel station. 

For us..about the only thing we have is 23 miles from our house a gas station offers soy diesel..it will cost you about 50 cents more a gallon than regular diesel or gas.

It's funny, just a few years ago these fast food joints were paying people to take away the "grease".  Nowadays, they are selling it like a commodity.

The really nice thing about using this used oil, is the smell of the exhaust.  Mmmm, french fries.

Well you know, even fast food oils can be recycled.
Trans fat > blubber > lipsuction > fancy soaps!    [sm=meh.gif]
