MzMia -> Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 6:59:22 PM)

I went to see "The Dark Night", I loved it simply because of Heath
Ledger's performance.
It is so great to see actors, that well can act!
I was blown away, yet saddened that one so talented died so early.

Heath HAS to get a posthumous Oscar for this?
Do you think he deserves it?

I do.

He was excellent in the role, and it is probably the best performance I have seen in a movie this year.

Coincidentally, I went to see this film today with my son. I thought it was a fairly run-of-the-mill, typical super hero Hollywood blockbuster, with a few great sequences, and that Ledger's performance was good. Overall, the movie bored me to death, but I'm a David Lynch fan.

Whether he deserves the Oscar over the other contenders simply because he died (and that is very sad, I agree) is another matter. Who do you think he should be competing against?

MzMia -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 7:03:37 PM)

Ahh Thadius, this was the best acting I have seen in any recent movies,
in years.

MzMia -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 7:15:47 PM)

Ahhh kittin, I have no idea who he will be competing against, BUT
I hope he is able to compete.

I feel his performance, deserves a "nod" at the very least.

kittinSol -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 7:20:08 PM)

Agreed, it was good acting. I felt sorry for his character; no small feat for an actor to pull when he's playing the part of such a despicable villain. He did well.

slvemike4u -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 7:51:47 PM)

I think a nomination is pretty much in the "bag" for this performance, what with the buzz, and his death there will be a lot of pressure and industry pub for him.Who he would be up against,I am with MzMia I have no idea

Saffleur -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 7:53:36 PM)

A nomination will probably occur but a posthumous? Unlikely. Only one person got a posthumous Oscar. The Oscar committee, doesn't like hugging death.

Good point: there's nothing more terrifying to an industry concerned with immortality than a dead peer.

Dont know if you meant this to be funny Kittin, but your phrasing certainly made me chuckle

How sad for Heath and his family.
I thought the Oscar was based on performance?
Heath certainly is a contender and most people don't see it
as "hugging death".

I ALWAYS try to be funny: how could you think otherwise [8D] ?

Please attribute it to nothing more than a momentary loss of sanity, due to some of the wacky idolatry post's on another thread...my apologies Kittin

I haven't seen it, but I liked Batman Begins.  After all the shitty Batman movies that came out in the 90's, it was a relief to see someone reclaim that franchise from mediocrity.  I will watch it when it comes out on video.  I rarely go to movie theaters; it has to be somthing I really want to see to make that excursion.

I don't really pay that much attention to the Oscars.  I'm a big movie buff, but I follow the Razzies with more enthusiasm.

slaveboyforyou? Heath rocks!
It is also playing at the IMAX Theater in D.C.

I am going to see it again at the IMAX, and I rarely, ever,
go see any movie twice!

Mia, I don't have anything against Ledger's acting.  I have to reserve my judgment of the film until I see it.  I'll be honest though, I don't remember Ledger being in anything that great.  I loved Monster's Ball, and I thought he did a great job with that character.  But he wasn't in the movie for very long.  (*Spoiler*  He shoots himself in the first part of the movie.)  Other than that, I remember him from The Patriot.  I hated that fucking movie.  It was an absolute piece of shit, and the acting skills of the cast couldn't save it.

It was a great thing that they went back to the dark gritty side of the Batman genre.

XaviersXian -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 8:56:44 PM)

greetings to all,

Heath did an incredible job.  I hope that he *does* get a posthumous oscar (or at least a nod of some type).  His Joker was one creeeeeeepy guy.

well wishes,

SoulPiercer -> RE: Why so serious?----posthumous Oscar! (7/27/2008 9:22:14 PM)

I saw it last weekend.

I think Heath Ledger should get a best supporting actor nomination and I think he should win it hands down.

However, I agree with Kittin's point. The academy is made of people who embrace immortality and thus are not likely to give the award to someone who died recently. But they just might make up some goofy award to present instead.

The other thing is: I kind of doubt there are many people on the committee who actually "get" Batman and the Joker and would realize that Ledger owned this role. This is the Joker that Batman fans have been waiting to see.

If you haven't seen the movie .. but plan on seeing it .. there is a scene early in the movie that lets you know .. this is not your "typical" comic book adaptation.

That scene alone seperated the Batman fans from everyone else in the theater. The Batman fans were the ones on their feet cheering .. because we knew it was going to be a great ride from that point forward.
