JanusDom -> RE: Can I have examples of the types of jobs Doms have (8/7/2008 6:59:16 PM)

Yes, I have known a couple of guys who I have supervised (I was 2 layers above them in management) who I knew (1 for certain, 1 by reputation) were slick-talking doms with multiple slaves on the outside, but they both were too uncontrollably macho to be even mildly successful in their careers.
I've known a sub who was brutally treated by a sub who claimed to be a big CEO but really did odd jobs and couldn't make ends meet.
But there is someone for everyone. You will find the right dom for you. Whether a D/S or 'nilla relationship, people select each other for their own reasons--job may be one or it may not be.
Good luck!

Well I guess that would depend. I am Dominant all the time, work, home but that is my nature and tendency.

Sincerely,

Don't know if you're interested in hearing from female dominants as well, but, very much the way that I came into my crop in the BDSM world, I clawed and scraped and redesigned my world at work to end up in a job where, even if I'm part of a huge corporate machine, I pretty much manage myself. I have a pretty unique position in our department, and there are only a handful of people who have the same position in the institution.

I can't be anything but what I am -- I'm dominant by nature, but have yielded to necessity... then done everything I could to reshape the 'necessity' until I could live with it long-term.

Psychiatrists, politicians, womens prison guards, cops, Gene Simmons, Alice Cooper, pawn shop owners, preachers, priests, wrestlers in the WWF, trash truck drivers, anyone who has ever been featured on dirty jobs, CPAs, and of course bikers.

Well, I do work in a bookstore, so that would qualify as a "quiet" occupation.

I've been a technician, a design engineer a politician, a globe-trotting arms salesman and now I do what I do ...

I have noticed, though, that generally subbies drive new and smartish cars, dommes usually drive worn out old bangers.

Though that generalisation is about as true as any other generalisation: that is, not a lot!

MercTech -> RE: Can I have examples of the types of jobs Doms have (8/19/2008 11:40:06 AM)

I've been alpha at a job before but I'm frankly burned out on being the shepard of a mixed herd of mules and cats.

These days, I take term contracts for technical work.  A humorous take on my work is at http://home.earthlink.net/~sjerkins/HP.htm
The pay is decent if not exceptional but the free periods are a plus.

I'm self employed.  Don't fit into hierarchies well if I'm not the top dog.  Just works best for me.

I'm retired. Don't have a lot of cash flow, but I don't wear a watch and wake up when I want.

Could be worse. [8D]

As a Dom for many years I will tell you; yes.. one's outside or everyday life has nothing to do with the BdS&m lifestyle.  A Dom in the lifestyle must alway be in control of who he is and what he is doing.  Being in control in the lifstyle helps them to keep a cool head in the outside world.  I am now retired; but I had my on Photography studio. I did social work. I work with street gangs in NYC; and in California I did Customer Service.

Pure Alpha...I once told a boss after he mentioned I was 'too aggressive' that he would never had said that to a man (mind you, this was high end banking policy so aggressive was NOT a bad thing...).  Other then that- law enforcment, professor, emergency management (my current field)...

VivaciousSub -> RE: Can I have examples of the types of jobs Doms have (9/23/2008 8:24:54 PM)

I have a thing for techies. My first Master, who I will always remember fondly, is a very senior Java programmer involved in a high-risk venture capital deal. Most of my other partners have been computer types as well.

However it was my first Master that demonstrated the power of personality. He's the guy who walks into a room and suddenly owns the place without even trying. Everyone turns to him and waits for him to speak without usually understanding why that happened. He's amazing.

My job... I own and run a residential construction / home improvement company, I own a coffee shop, I own and manage a small real estate investment company which both owns residential and commercial rental properties as well as buying and reselling single family homes, I own and run a non-profit youth center, I'll be opening a convenience store sometime in the next three months, I also sit on the board of directors for the local small business alliance, and have been asked to serve on the board of directors for economic development for the town.

As for whether I'm quiet or aggressive, that depends on what I feel is in my best interests.  In all the above ventures I listen and observe at least as much as I speak out, usually more so.  When I do speak out, its with purpose and direction... I've already seen and heard enough to have decided on a course of action.
