i've read the first book in the Beauty series, and liked it enough as a fictitional fantasy story.  Haven't read the other two, yet.

i heart the Kushiel's series, though.  i've read the first three, though it's been awhile since.  And now, i've come to find out she's (Jacqueline Carey) has written at least three more full length books in the series.

And i haven't read the Exit to Eden book(s).  i've seen part of the movie, though (the one with Rosie O'Donnell, yes?).  Interesting.

i might have to try the Marketplace series sometime...

Carey actualy reads her letters.. and writes back! Love her!

i was a lonely, bored, unsatisfied, housewife that had led a very sheltered life until a friend gave me the books to read.  it was strange when she gave me the books, she was 6 years younger than me and said that when she read them, she kept thinking of me.  so i went into reading it not knowing what to expect.  i never had the nerve to ask why it reminded her of me.   i was clueless about there even being a lifestyle even after i read the books!  young and naive.  so of course it had sparked an interest for me, only i thought it was all fantasy and nobody actually lives for this kind of thing.  lol

i have recently reread the books and they just don't affect me the way they did back in the day when she wrote them as A.N. Roquelaure.  i guess i have been corrupted by the lifestyle as well, but i still like the story, it speaks to the little girl maso in me.  mm hmm.

i was told by a friend, who claimed to know Anne and her husband that they are in fact a D/s couple.  has anybody else heard such rumors or is there any evidence or truth to it?  just curious.  i maybe wrong but i thought that she had written them for him when they first started out as a couple.

edited for typo

How true.  But it did have a comedy moment, when Rosie says "paint my house".... that was funny.

I read the Beauty series many years ago and I loved them. But I read them as fantasy and something to masturbate to. I recently reread them and although I still like the story, I didn't find them quite as good as I originally did.

I haven't read Exit to Eden, but since everyone is raving about it, that will be the next one on my list!

And I agree with RS. The Marketplace series is very good.

I'm sorry, I thought it was a load of bullocks.

Does that mean I have to give my sub-card back?

Hello seababy,

It's by Anne Rice - what'd you expect great literature?
And for the record, I couldn't stand the whole vampire crap either.

He rose from the depth of the darkness, pulling the mere oxygen from the night air, stalking it like prey, vanquishing all in his dastardly path.

Yeah

He got up and took a breath.

Her books  make great kindling. (and since I don't think you know me, I don't often say stuff this snide... it just.. well I've always hated her books.  But you gotta give her credit.  She's laughing all the way to the bank... with your money).

Its all good I love your post it made me laugh.
Hate and snide away with relish you little book burner!
I know there are a few authors around that I'd add to your bonfire.
Yes its not high brow, but I did enjoy some of her vampire books. (Although Bram Stokers Dracula is still my favorite)
I will have to go back and reread one of Anne's again its been a long while.
I seem to remember enjoying some of her vivid imagery and finding it sensual and absorbing.
Maybe if I reread it now Ill just find it pretentious and wordy? Dunno.
As for giving her my money well, I confess I've forked out cash for even trashier books than that.
Every now and then (probably not often enough) I grab something to challenge myself with so my brain doesn't completely fall into pulp fiction mush.

Yeah, I have to say that the corporate genius who decided to make that horrible Exit to Eden movie ought to be taken out and publicly executed. But then again I said the same thing about Brian Singer after watching the X-Men movies. *shudders* God those movies were horrible....

I liked the Exit to Eden film. I thought it was funny.

I have tried numerous times to read one of the Beauty books, and am unable to because the writing style is so awful. I typically force myself to get through three pages before I can't stand any more.
