If he backs down and accepts the $20 million, I will lose a LOT of respect for him.  I always thought he was overrated; now I think he's a disruptive goof, too.

And air it on Pay-Per-View!

The commissioner needs to slap Favre.

Wow...I am surprised ,a Giant's fan I loved the interception he threw in the NFC Championship Game, but ask me who has been the most fun to watch the last couple of years and it's hands down Favre...thought he was a wee bit more popular than is coming across on this thread...

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 4:51:17 PM)

I think Favre hasn't lost any of his popularity.......he is just testing it.

GO PATS in 09 ......(okay I gave away my prejudice)

Why don't they just trade him and be done with it? Both Tampa Bay and the Jets want him; so what if Green Bay can't get "value" for  him, hell, paying him $20 million isn't getting value out of him. Get him gone and move on.

Because like most pro athletes of his caliber, he probably has a clause in his contract that says he must approve any trade. Why would he play for the Jets or the Bucs? You don't come out of "retirement" to spend the entire season on your back.

Favre has been quoted many times over the years as saying "it's not about the money, it was never about the money."

If he takes the money, I too would lose a lot of respect for him.

He was a lot more popular, until this mess. He denied his wanting to come back as "rumors" and it turns out it was all true. On top of that, he broke the cardinal rule of the locker room. He did a "tell all" with the media. And not even a sports journalist! Hell .. why didn't he at least give the exclusive to Tiki Barber?

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:13:59 PM)

You nailed it quite bluntly.

GO PATS IN '09  (I can't seem to help myself)

He could be the missing piece that keeps the Bucs offense from the same level as their defense, and if the Jets free agent picks pan out, they could be back in the playoffs again, so it isn't like he'd be playing for Atlanta, or Miami.

He has 4 basic choices: take the $20 million and stay at home, just stay at home, allow a trade to a potential playoff team, or go back to Green Bay. If he does the latter, is he trying to force management's hand? Either let me start, or I'll shame you by standing on the sideline, holding a clipboard?

GO PATS IN '09  (I can't seem to help myself)

Not enough ball gags and spankings in the mix, it seems [:D]

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:23:50 PM)

Level, with all due respect, I would be surprised to see Favre with a team of the calibur of the Bucs or Jets.  Being serious here, I see it as the Vikings....teamed up with Adrian Petersen............as we all know Favre didn't get Moss ...........but my dollars are on Peterson as the next best thing (perhaps better) dayum did I just say that.

GO PATS IN '09 (yes I'm prejudiced, I admit it............GO BRADY BUTT)

(dangles some good Canuck bacon for ya)

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:26:00 PM)

You got me...........waves the white flag...(God us Canucks surrender easily)

GO PATS....hehe haha hoho

Did someone say ho?

Level -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:28:36 PM)

Hi sassee. Yes, he'd love to join the Vikings, but Green Bay would be insane to allow that. And what would Minnesota offer for him? They gave up their choice draft picks to KC picking up Jared Allen.

Yum, canadian bacon. [X(]

Edited to add: the Vikes still have next year's picks, it looks like, so maybe....... but GB would still be nuts.

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:39:37 PM)

Level, I understand.  Edit...you wanted to remove the GO PATS didn't you?...(smiles).  Yes, GB would be insane to let Favre go to the Vikes........but guess what, they are kinda sorta maybe yeah probably cornered.  I really really do think we will see Favre in purple...and I think that may not be such a bad thing.  I mean Brady Butt cannot be kept running willy nilly and running up the score board like he tends to do with Moss...so a Favre/Petterson connection may not be a bad thing.

Cripsy, Level, nice and crispy Canuck bacon............deep breath...(grin)

I'm really anxious to see the Vikings defense..... it may be the next dominant D in the NFL.

And remember everyone: tomorrow is the Hall of Fame induction, and Sunday the game, I think.

sasseeNshy -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/1/2008 5:54:23 PM)

Tears, I'm wiping tears outta my eyes.......yes, Level, wouldn't it be nice? Likely to happen....NOT....Unfortunately "America's team"..has well.......dare I say her name? no need...you know who I mean.  But please confess, You really did type PATS IN '09....but then thought you could fool us silly Canucks?? huh huh.

Fess up Level...........you are a closet Canuck bacon lover isn't you???

Oh someone spank me

Lordandmaster -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/2/2008 8:13:01 AM)

Abso-fucking-lutely!

By the way, I guess I am one of the few people in America who really do believe that the Packers have a better chance of winning with Aaron Rodgers than with Favre.  They're building that team to be a long-term contender, and the talent and depth they've put together is impressive.  MAYBE Favre would be better than Rodgers in 2008 (although I think even that is debatable), but he's certainly not going to be better beyond that, and the Packers expect to contend for several years.  If they don't get Rodgers going now, they're going to lose him at the end of the year (when he becomes a free agent) and then they'll be left with NO ONE at quarterback.

Seems obvious to me--so why isn't the Packer brass just saying this?  I think they're afraid of the publicity hit that they'd take.  But it's not as though their tack is winning them any love from the fans.

I think they guy they drafted this year from Louisville, Brian Brohm, will do better than Rogers, at least in a year or two.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/2/2008 3:41:56 PM)

Not rulin' it out, but it's very hard to predict how young quarterbacks will fare, and attitude has a lot to do with it.  Hell, I thought Ryan Leaf had a big future in the NFL.  So yes, Aaron Rodgers is a risk too.

One thing I've noticed is that when coaches and everyone else on the team says that so and so "practices well," they're usually not wrong.  Remember back when Trent Green was an unknown bouncing around from team to team?  He got famous when he wowed Dick Vermeil and the other Rams in training camp (1999, I believe).  Then he went down and that's when Kurt Warner got his opportunity to go crazy with the Greatest Show on Turf.  Because of injuries, Trent Green never really had a chance to maximize his potential, but he has been a very good quarterback when he's been healthy.

Yeah, I thought Leaf was going to do well too [:)]

KatyLied -> RE: Green Bay wants to pay Favre 20 million (8/2/2008 7:02:28 PM)

Aaron Rodgers is a risk.  But I agree that the team needs to move on.  Favre's antics the past few seasons have made that nearly impossible.
