This is not good news at all, but I have been listening to the news,
in horror for about 10 minutes and it has not been announced here yet.
Sleeping man beheaded on Greyhound bus - Americas- msnbc.com

I actually enjoy catching Greyhound for short trips.
Last time I caught the bus to Philly, I marveled at how they did not screen

or check the luggage or the people boarding!
I bought my ticket, waited for the bus, put my bags underneath in the bag compartment,

got on the bus, and rode to Philly!

I used to laugh at how much easier and more convienent the bus was over flying {even after 9/11}, in fact I could not believe they did not check or screen bags or passengers!

Just buy your ticket and ride!  You can catch the bus on the East Coast from Canada to Miami!
Well security will soon be changing.
What a dreadful story.

Good gracious... it sounds like a scene from a Coen brothers' movie.

**Blinks**

Wonder what set him off?

What was going on in the psycho's mind the second he decided to stab the sleeping man and then take his head.

How would that have stopped this?

Why is it no matter the crime people start looking for Guns.

The Man was STABBED with a KNIFE. If someone had, had a Gun they could have Shot the Bastard.

Beyond that this all happened in CANADA

So what does guns and the states have to do with this thread at all?

Sheesh.

See, you make a joke - whether it's funny or not is pretty irrelevant - and people take it literally. There's no hope for irony around here, there really isn't  .

Very good point Steel.
As you can see, we Canadians aren't immune to these random acts of violence either. It is quite shocking to hear something like this happening since I don't recall ever hearing of a murder happening on a Greyhound coach. In the past 30 plus years, traveling by bus was a my main mode of traveling and this is a first. Baggage isn't scanned for weapons unless the bus is crossing the border, elsewhere the baggage is assumed to be just that and is simply stowed underneath before departure. It's only when a passenger rouses the security's suspicions that they are removed from the bus along with any of their baggage and searched if the threat is high enough.

My first thought was "ummm, no one thought to try to stop the asshole?" My uncle was a driver for Greyhound for many years and I know very well the interiors of those buses. A few passengers could have taken the psycho down and possibly saved the man's life. Or did I hang around with the cops and firemen too long when I worked on the ambulance?

Edited for typos and to add - Bear, I don't think it's understood the differences here even if the States and Canada are neighbours. There are so many similarities and yet it's so different. This really isn't just an extension of the States.....

Apparently that joke was WAY over my head.

Sorry I thought you were being serious there are people on this site who would have been serious in saying what you did.

I honestly think for everyone that is murdered we need to club a baby seal that way they will at least feel somewhat bad commiting that Murder knowing that now someone has to go and club a baby seal.

fact remains is how the hell did a rambo type knife (as they say) get onto a bus in the first place????

i can tell you...security here is shit.  even at customs....when i went thru customs from usa to canada in detroit....they did nothing...you didnt even have to take your luggage off the bus nor carry on.  pathetic.

in the last  6 years i have traveled to and from california on greyhound 4 times.
without issues and in the winter! (which is scary shit)

I gots to know.

And yeah...I'm dense too.  I've seen too many gun control freaks that one can never know when it's serious or not.  I just don't have that European insight.

I agree that violence seems to be the main issue here.
I can look around the house and see any number of household items that could be used as a
weapons { scissors, kitchen knives, screwdrivers,  hammers, even a long sharp nail file}.
Like you said this lunatic had a knife.

There's a thread about the church shooting last weekend that was turned into a cry for more gun control.

servantforuse was using a rather well-time bit of humor to point out that more gun laws aren't the answer. Because .. psychos would still be able to get knives.

Well done!
