Does your First Aid Kit have anything different or special in it because of your play?

I have more Aloe and topical analgesic.

pompeii -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (7/31/2008 8:56:07 PM)

Ginger root.....

Racquelle -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (7/31/2008 9:04:46 PM)

I keep witch hazel in spray bottles in the toy bag.  It is good for cleaning toys, it is a great refresher when one gets a bit sweaty, it is great for cleansing feet between worshipers, and its mildly astringent qualities make it excellent for soothing a sore anus or cunt without irritation.  It smells like scotch, and its taste disappears in seconds.

I don't know that it's differant than what's in our first aid supplies in the house, but our 'play' first aid bag has a few things for that 'just in case' problem like:

In addition to 'normal' stuff, we have
Burn cream (for fireplay mishaps)

Instant ice bags
iodine
butterfly bandages
bactine
ear plugs - there is nothing worse for me than going to a party and having some attention whore feel the need to fill the space with their screams and moans at the expense of my enjoyment. Parties can get expensive and it's a buzz kill to have to deal with lazy DM's who think that shit's cute. A 3.00 package of ear plugs can be a life saver.

Ear plugs?  Wow...what a great idea....something i hadn't thought of!   You can get distracted in public play from the surroundings.....and geee, hummmm..... i'm pretty vocal when i play...laughing, moaning.....i never thought of myself as being an "attention whore" ...just enjoying the moment...but your comment has given me something to think about.......

greetings to all,

OP, Master and i don't tend to play these days, so no, we just have a normal kit.

As BDSM additions though, I'd recommend:

A small book with emergency numbers written in it, some sharp scissors (or some other type of sharp cutting implement) in case of a need for a quick release, some glucose sachets or rehydration pouches (just in case the blood sugar drops badly), an ice/heat pack (in case of injuries), some non-stick dressings and bandages, saline pouches, distilled water (for an eye wash, should you need it) an alternative to iodine/alcohol swabs (ask for these at the chemist, just in case you end up with a partner who is allergic to both iodine and alcohol swabs, like i am), Panadol (paracetamol), Emla cream, Detol (an antiseptic wash for grazes and the like) Savlon (abrasion/burn cream) tweezers, a supply of cotton cloths in various thicknesses (good for stemming out of control blood flow, as padding (for beneath toys, or around anything penetrating the skin), and for mopping up anything that needs it), and Dexal (for stomach upsets).

These are just my suggestions.  I hope they help you out!

well wishes,

Woo hoo -- someone else with homeopathics in their kit. My Darling is a homeopath, and ours contains Arnica, Natrum Muriaticum, Cantharis, Ledum Palustre, Nux Vomica, Belladonna, Bellis Perennis... there are a half dozen more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head -- and a small, laminated card to tell which is where and what it's for.

Ours also includes coldpacks, heat packs, crash scissors, homeopathic wound wash, vaseline (petroleum jelly) gauze, FRS energy powdered mix and chews (good because they can be used with diabetics without destabilizing their blood sugar control). This is in addition to the 'normal' First Responder kit.

There are some incredibel suggestions here.  What is the Arnica for?

Racquelle -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (8/1/2008 6:09:12 PM)

Arnica is said to help bruises heal, and is often used in healing rubs and poultices.  I have not had much luck with arnica myself, but it is an herbal that is considered to have few harmful side-effects, so it's worth a try.  Google it and discuss its use, as with any herbal remedy, with your regular doctor to ensure it won't interact with other medications you may be taking.

OnlyMels -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (8/1/2008 9:12:10 PM)

Belladonna isn't something you want to have it ill make you pass out and if you take to much it can kill you. I know its illegal in some states. At least thats what I've been told. I could be wrong.

I got this from Wikipedia
Belladonna is one of the most toxic plants found in the Western hemisphere. Also called deadly night shade. I don't want anyone going out and trying this and getting sick or dying.

Its also used to make Atropine but it could still be deadly.
It is classified as an anticholinergic drug. Being potentially deadly, it derives its name from Atropos, one of the three Fates who, according to Greek mythology, chose how a person was to die.

StrongSpirit -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (8/1/2008 9:22:36 PM)

Handcuff Key

It never hurts to keep an extra one around.

Also, if you use chains and locks, and purchased a set with all with the same key,  then put an extra key to that in there as well.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (8/1/2008 9:25:07 PM)

The remedies I listed in the kit were not herbals -- they are homeopathics -- potentized remedies based on the philosophies of homeopathic medicine. These remedies are potentized below Avogadro's number and are not harmful.

The arnica in our kit is also homeopathic, not herbal. My darling is a trained homeopath (Homeopathic College of Durham and British Institute of Homeopathy).

These are very effective for the possible traumas of the intense level of play that I do. Of course, before trying to use them, it would be good to either work with a homeopath who could explain how to use them properly, or obtain layman's knowledge of homeopathy (there are any number of good books available that provide basic understanding of homeopathic principles and use of the most common, low potency remedies).

~Fast Reply~

Not really. We have our standard issue first kit and several tubes of arnica gel. However I wouldn't say I have them because of BDSM. I'd say I have it because someone I was sleeping with showed me how it could help get rid of bruises before my parents showed up for a visit. [;)]

azropedntied -> RE: BDSM First Aid Kit? (8/2/2008 11:44:13 AM)

field surgeons kit .. ooh wait thats  my toy bag ..
I have a good sized  first aide bag but do not always bring it with me .I do have a club org that is local i belong to with a great well stocked first aide station . But if i am doing for example  fire  and fire cupping on someone , or breaking out the single tails some or all the first aide bag come with me .E-oils , Aloe , stethoscope , band aides  and bandages of all sorts  , stapler ,  stitches ,threads , ice and heat packs , thermometer, seatbelt cutter , medic scissors , etc etc . Adding  some items  do get cross used  in medial  play exchanges to and you can buy a general medical first aide bag and repack or add to it from there . Every home should have one bdsm or not .

I'm not suggesting we should never make a sound. But gags were invented for a reason and IMHO if the bottom's vocal expressions are clearing the dungeon, it's time to employ one.

For a long time  I wasn't allowed to play publically without a gag, so I'm not just throwing stones here. Gags allow the bottom to express themselves without inflicting themselves on the entire party.

To me, it's common courtesy, but it's been some time since I saw DMs asking Tops to gag a overly loud sub in a public environment so I bring my own earplugs.

I made them, specific to our particular kit. Each remedy and its first-aid uses are listed, their location in the kit is listed, as are antidotes in the event of aggravation, remedies that are inimical in combination (like not using rhus tox and apis together or immediately following one another unless the 1st one used has been properly antidoted!), follow-up remedies, and what to look for in terms of possible aggravations.
