I agree but sadly it does not happen that often here. Actually my apologies. It does but sadly to the wrong people...

i'm definetly not real, i'm a figment of everyones imagination.

That explains it. I was beginning to think it was all that LSD I ate.

But seriously...
My desire to post comes and goes. Usually someone else has already said what I want to say by the time I get here. Besides, I get the impression I annoy a lot of people because I goof around so much and don't always have something new to add.

i'm a notorious lurker, on every message board i view. i like to hang around and see what's going on for a while before i start posting.

I've never deleted any posts because
1. I usually put a lot of thought into them, so it says exactly what I want it to say
2. Since I gave it so much thought, I don't really want that evidence to disappear ;)
3. I take pride in my ability to communicate an argument - plus I like to go back and read them sometimes, as it gives me some perspective/reinforcement.

There have only been a couple that I wanted to retract - didn't have all my facts straight, or it was more emotionally driven than I would have liked. But the cool thing about this environment is that even if you do flub, it's forgotten in a week or so. Those couple of misteps I made are buried deep in the thread history - I'm probably the only one who remembers it.

I enjoy reading, but usually don't have anything to contribute, or by the time I get around to wanting to respond, it's already been said by then. I generally also look at the forums in the morning when I don't have time to post. Of course, today would be the exception to that.

Same here.

A lot of the time, I'm wayyyy to busy to contribute anything worth saying that hasn't already been said.

No. I may add, but not take away. Treat it as real - if you speak to someone face to face, you cannot take it back, so why should a person when they type?

Alot of people would be afraid of personal attacks or 'flames' as its more commenly known to the people that frequent online communites. Having snide remarks thrown at them and just not being bothered to post again.

It all happens here.

like someone else said alot of people do just like to read and not comment.

this is why i hold back alot on my comments, guess everyone needs a little restraint

The thing you could think about is, why are other peoples thoughts and opinions being allowed to alter how you speak. Do you want to give others that control, or do you believe in your own thoguths and words?

Peace and Love

SirKenin -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/19/2005 9:41:27 AM)

I do not post as much anymore because there is not much going on here. I can leave for two days, come back and there is new replies in maybe a dozen threads at the most, one, maybe two new threads out of that dozen and people repeating themselves or jockeying for position. I do not see the need to contribute to that, so I just skip on. If there is a thread that interests Me, then I add My comments.

However, when people attack the way I capitalize, the car I drive or the suit I wear (I do not really care what their feeble excuse is for doing it, either) I figure "screw it" and I go back over to My other forums where they talk about computers and other things that really interest Me. Over there I see twenty to thirty new posts in a matter of ten minutes in just one of about twenty five forums. I can help them troubleshoot. They solve the problem and hasten to thank Me for My time. They welcome people to the forum. That is just on one site.

So it is not the internet in general where everyone just lurks. This site has 100,000 members. If just one percent posted, which is not unreasonable, that is 1000 members posting new topics or posts. There is something else wrong, and it is not just Me and My occasional flame.

darkinshadows -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/19/2005 10:37:28 AM)

Unfortunately, you will get nasty people on anysite. People like to be mean or laugh at people, take them less than seriously. They like to berate others for their beliefs, or for following something they don't believe they should. Some people are unable to realise they have faults and unable to see constructive crique when it is offered with honest hearts and helpful minds. Some people are unable to accept honesty through another persona eyes Some people like to feel important and above others and feel as though it's their right to place personal attacks on others or even, blame an entire site for the way they are treated.

Methinks that these people should take a good hard look at themselves and maybe practise what they preach.

Peace and Rapture

I've been here for the most part of the passing year. I used to post in the forums that I attended, but I often got into 'fights'... flaming, that would be called over here, I guess? It made me not want to go there again, but I still like to read and learn to know about peoples ideas.

Grins.. I was once in a situation where a group of people that didn't know me all that well, had to express their feelings about me in drawing. They drew a rather friendly face with one overbearing feature: BIG big ears...
I guess that says enough?

the ever lurking,

SirKenin -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/19/2005 11:09:05 AM)

I posted a lengthy thread to help people gain some insights into the weakspots of their profiles. I did it because I cared. I did not HAVE to do it. Now that I look back on it, I should not have even bothered, very few listened, I got plenty of attacks and was put on moderation for a week.

Wow, I felt inspired to post after that. If Y/you notice, I have never come back to full strength since. There is very good reason for that.

Good reason? An inability to accept failiure for people to understand?
If there is a probelm with a profile - take it to the person, or to support. They deal with such. Pointing out faults as 'you' (generic) see them in a public forum and expecting people to be impressed and grateful for being publicly humiliated - or seeing someone humiliated in the name of caring, isn't being 'helpful' - it's called being insensitive and tactless. I daresay, it would be against TOS and viewed as a personal attack (come to think of it, back on that post in question, I think moderators posted warnings). Complaining that someone doesn't like the car you drive, then complaining that people do not take your criticism you bestow well, is called double standards.
All in all - irony from infamy.

Peace and Rapture

SirKenin -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/19/2005 7:56:29 PM)

And there is a prime example of why I keep My contributions to a minimum now. A case in point you might say.

darkinshadows -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/20/2005 4:05:46 AM)

Yes, you proved your case quite well. It is saddening that you do not learn, yet judge instead. I only pray that your light will shine instead of such hate.

Much Peace and Love to you and yours.

KatyLied -> RE: Why dont more people post? (11/20/2005 5:58:43 AM)

Sometimes I think this place needs a rant/flame forum

<joking, really, sort of>
