Vendaval -> Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/4/2008 9:41:45 PM)

I think we are long over-due for more research and development on these drugs.

"The Long Wait for Male Birth Control"

"But in 2008, there's still no birth control for men. What happened? In a word: money. With the cost of new-drug development hovering in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the pharmaceutical industry decided there wasn't enough of a market to make male hormonal contraceptives worthwhile. The German drug giant Schering halted its development program in 2006 (after its high-profile acquisition by Bayer), and other drug companies quickly followed suit, abandoning several projects that were — at least by the researchers' accounts — on the verge of success."

They've already invented male birth control.  It's called parkour.

Oh geez, LAM.  Talk about male risk taking!  [sm=injured.gif]
Traction suits, anyone?

I don't care what they come up with, Ven, there is already an antidote on the market.

The antidote to male birth control

I have this bad feeling that "beer goggles" are somehow involved!  [sm=chug.gif]

       Good instincts, Ven [:D]

Yup, another case of "coyote ugly"!

I've waited patiently for a male birth control pill my whole life. I despise condoms but in almost all cases prefer to retain control of whether I'll procreate. There is something innately unappelaing about a vasectomy, for me at least, and I've haven't got one due to the many articles claiming the male pill was nearly ready for human trials.

Now these idiot pharm companies have dropped the program so its the knife for me.

kittinSol -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 5:02:01 AM)

The male birth control pill is a great idea, but here is the thing: it is not the man that takes the pregnancy risk. So would a woman be totally comfortable that the man she's shagging isn't going to get her up the duff, since she would have relinquished control of the contraception to him? Unless I saw the man swallow the pill every day at a certain time, I'm not sure I'd be all that trusting (we all forget things). Incidentally, I, too, find vasectomies and other tying up of knots hugely unappealing.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 5:12:00 AM)

I don't take pills.  I won't even take Aspirin or Tylenol unless I have some serious pain.  So good luck trying to get me to take a birth control pill every day.  As far as vasectomies....I've already made a pledge to have one if I'm not married by the age of 40.  By the way, what is so weird about having a vasectomy?

I just hate the idea, don't ask me why (perhaps a deeply primitive feeling that a spermless spunk isn't worth swallowing [8D]).

Vasectomies = lots and lots and lots of sex, anywhere and everywhere.

LOL.  M'kay Kittin.  I have never actually seen the ejaculate from a man with a vasectomy, but I hear it looks the same.  My buddy has two boys, and he had one.  He was in and out of the doc's on the same day.  He said it was no biggie and said it actually made his sex life with the wife better.  She appreciated him doing it, and they didn't have to worry with contraceptives anymore.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 5:27:46 AM)

Sperm tastes much much better after a vasectomy.

Maybe it's just me, but somehow that phrase brings to mind a rather different form of birth control...

You know exactly what I meant....ejaculate.  Is that better???  [sm=fingers.gif]

Irishknight -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 6:12:14 AM)

I thought male birth control was called aging.

Woa, he admitted that to you [:D] ?

Seriously, contraception is an area of medical research that could do with a large amount of progress - but I doubt women are yet at the stage where they can afford to trust a man that he hasn't forgotten to take his Pill.

As for sterilization procedures, they're a matter of personal choice. If an individual's decided he no longer wanted children, of course it's his prerogative to get the snip, although I think there are less permanent solutions out there that still enable people to make love (and have lots of dirty sex) just as much and just as satisfyingly.

TheHeretic -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 6:46:52 AM)

We need to forget the whole 'daily pill' thing, and head straight for an implant technology, like Norplant.  Get the guys a 'starfish of happiness,' the number of pregnancies will drop.

kittinSol -> RE: Male birth control, we are still waiting (8/5/2008 6:48:40 AM)

I wouldn't wish Norplant on my worst enemy, let alone on the man I love [&:] .
