i just returned from an 8 day "vacation" at a local hospital, complete with two tours of their lovely operating suites, cozy accommodations for one in a semi private room and all meals delivered by room service piping lukewarm!  i'll spend the next two weeks channel surfing on my sofa, riding waves of painkillers.   anyone have better vacation tales to tell?  dear lord i hope so, lol!

Eeek, sorry about your "vacation." That doesn't sound like fun, and I hope you recover soon.

I've spent most of the summer nesting in anticipation of our first um's arrival--decorating, shopping, interviewing doctors, researching, and feeling totally unprepared.  Other than that, just working like a maniac.  Summer is a good time to be a freelancer--everyone goes on vacation and sends their work out to me.

I work in the school system so I have summers off and have done nothing fun.  The gas prices are too high, money is tight to get through the summer, but it is a vacation just not to have to go to work every day. September is coming too soon lol pouts.

Lots and lots of work as per usual. Went through a minor medical emergency. Counseled someone out of suicide and got them to seek further help. Dealt with a swarm of flying ants by my house (of all fucking things, ants....that fly...christ). Made some new friends. Narrowly avoided catastrophe several times. Got a raise, and read alot of books. Not a great summer, but not a bad one.

We have been nowhere so far this summer.  Too much work and not enough off time.  We are taking a few days off to go to another state for Labor day...also Doug's birthday.

Going to have to pack the entire vacation into a few days.

seems alot of us have been staying close to home this year, gas prices are one reason and the rising costs of just day to day living are making special things a little more difficult to come by.  i hope next year will be better for everyone and we can all get away for awhile.

Is it just me, or does it seem like summer is getting shorter every year?

I did my vacation earlier in the year ( a week in the UK).. now I do occasional weekends away from Tampa.
Actually, my job is ALMOST like a vacation.. I get to read, surf the web, talk with people I like (I work at a hotel where we get tons of repeat business). Theres just that pesky problem of having to keep regular hours..LOL

PM.. hope you recover quickly.. *hugs*

Hang in there, PM.  At least you are free from the hospital attire and meal service.  Do you have someone taking care of you at home?

thanks for all the well wishes, i'm doing ok, the kids and cub are here for me.  my mom and i were teasing about these types of "vacations" because she has a similar condition and we have the same doc.  he threatened to send her on a "vacation" as well if she didn't follow strict orders.  sure, you get a change of scenery and no daily chores to do but the food sucks and the entertainment is kinda limited to the horndog senile old man across the floor who likes to run naked at shift change when the nurses are doing report.  NOT reccommended viewing!

I am sorry to hear you were in the Hospital. Not the greatest place to get much needed rest. I wish you a quick and speedy recovery!

my summer has been filled with music festivals, outdoors adventures (camping, hiking and the like), working on my truck, offroading weekends.  Nothing fancy; try to do everything on the cheap if i can.

A speedy recovery PM.
As for me not too much, working on my tan, swimming in the pool although yesterday (the 6th) had to be the hottest day of the year at 104 according to my "outside temperature" guage in the Mercury. Too hot to be out swimming, you'd get burned in 30 minutes! More of the same tommorrow!
I went to the Ford Dealorship with two ladies to get one of them a car as hers is on it's last legs.
While there I fell in love with the new Lincoln MKS!!
All leather interior, buckets seats heated and cooled, 3.7 litre V-6 engine with 273 horse power.
What a car! Stickers out at about $38k but I bet if I wait 'till Jan I can get them down to $29k.
Check it out for yourself on Lincoln's home page!
Great new colors too!

No trip to Ireland this year, the exchange rate is killer!

My summer has sucked totally. My father suffered a 2nd stroke which left him paralized and has affected his mind so badly he is like a child. I am dealing with my Mother who is in total denial that it is SHE who will have to be charge of their relationship now. In fact she refuses to be in charge and has informed me she wants to find a new man to "take care" of her, even though my Father is still alive. SIGH...Looks like I will be talking to a lawyer real soon.

I hope everyone else is having a great summer.

~Lashra
