Double whammy.
1) piss off some rich campaign contributors.
2) have the ad backfire by having the person you held up for ridicule as an "empty celebrity" come off as having a better, more nuanced energy plan than your own.

WTG, wrinkly white haired dude!
You and your marketing team are batting 1000.

Sanity -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 5:24:49 PM)

Don't you think that maybe the Hilton's are faking their indignation, perhaps for Paris's sake? It should come to no surprise to them that their precious little alcoholic princess is widely seen as a waste of space, pretty but only a pop star because of their money, because she has absolutely no talent and a notoriously empty head.

There, there, our little muffy. We'll help you make a video to get back at that bad bad man... later, they'll slip him another fifty grand when she's not looking.

I wonder who wrote the lines for her in that "rebuttal"?

I am no fan of Paris or Britney.  But Senator McCain's staff needs to think twice about treating their own donors this way.

Paris Hilton's Parents Are McCain Donors

by Andy BarrJuly 31, 2008 "Paris's parents have donated a combined $6,900 to the McCain campaign. The celebutaunt's father Rick gave McCain $4,600 in March, and her mother Kathleen spent her own $2,300 in April.

The family patriarch William Barron Hilton, the co-chairman of the Hilton hotel chain and celebrity's grandfather, has made five separate donations to McCain, totaling $15,100. The elder Hilton is a highly active GOP donor for several campaigns and committees, having donated to Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani as well as the National Republican Senatorial Committee to the tune of $15,000.

Paris has not donated to a candidate."

And her mother, Kathleen has been very vocal in her displeasure about the advertisement.

Kathy Hilton lashes out at McCain ad calling it a 'waste'
DAILY NEWS STAFF
Sunday, August 3rd 2008, 4:51 PM

"It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign," she said. "It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States."

And the McCain campaign did not ask permission to use the images and has not apologized.

McCain's office has not apologized for the ad, but explained that they used images of Paris and Spears because they came up second and third in a search for the top three celebrities in the world.

Paris showed her own disdain for the ad on Thursday in a frosty statement released by her publicist: "Miss Hilton was neither asked, nor did she give permission, for the use of her likeness in the ad, and has no further comment."

Oh, please do enlighten us with your "prediction" of what is to come, CL2112... light the candles, whip out the Ouija board, and tell us what the future has in store!

(This ought to be good... [getitng a Coke and some popcorn] I love third rate fantasy movies, don't you?)

It's really simple when you actually stop to think about it.

How does talking up an Obama/Hilton comparison help Obama?

Short answer: It doesn't.

Longer answer: Obama reacted in a predictably prissy fashion. Acting like a spoiled rock star is not the way to discredit a comparison to a spoiled (well, not exactly rock) star. Hilton can get indignant all she wants, but given that she is the epitome of "empty celebrity," there's not a damn thing she can say that will help Obama.

It`s working well.......[:D]

Vendaval -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/6/2008 10:35:41 PM)

I could not care less if the Hilton family are faking it or not or who write her lines or whatever, she's not my bitch.

The point being that it was unwise of Senator McCain's staff to mock the daughter and grand-daughter of very famous, very wealthy people who used to support his campaign.

Sadly, it's those people who can't even spell ignorant who are proud to accuse others of being "ignorrant".

DOES the poster realize that the opperative words in his paragraph about the Fermi II nuclear reactor outside Detroit are "...Almost..." and "possible"?  What if's don't cut the mustard and, moreover, even the worst domestic nuclear reactor incident in history, the actual meltdown of the radioactive fuel-rod core at Three Mile Island, didn't release a harmful amount of radioactive steam.

Might I suggest you actually get your facts right before making a spelling flame and calling some one else ignorant?

TMI was not the worst domestic reactor accident.

The actual worst domestic reactor accident was the SL-1 explosion and meltdown. Which definitely released radioactive material, including steam, into the environment and killed 3 people. When the accident response personnel arrived on site the meters showed a rate of approximately 500 roentgens/hour at the top of the stairs leading to the door to the reactor building. One of the fatalities was wearing a gold watch which after his body was recovered contained the radioactive isotope AU198 proving the reactor had gone supercritical.

Neither you or BP are in any position to demand anything from people who routinely back up their facts, and acknowledge their errors.

And nobody should let any comment from you on the topic of honesty pass without pointing how many threads you are running away from because you can't back up your claims...care to go back to the claim that Bush signed the 1993 legislation allowing predatory lending? Or your assessment of the history books reporting on a certain era?

Or shall we stay in the present and see how many times you've written 2.7 million instead of 2 million 700 thousand, as you just ridiculed others for when you were called on your erronious attacks?

Once more, for the new folks, neither of you are liberals or progressives in any way shape or form... you are either so benighted that you actually think that liberalism is all about lying and hatemongering and bigotry against anyone you can't bully into accepting your whacky BS assertions... or you are plants trying to portray all liberals as acting the way you do.

Speaking of acknowledging errors, what fiscal year starts October 1, 2008?

Sanity -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/7/2008 3:35:08 AM)

It's more important to get the message out that Obama's just another empty celebrity who is a babbling moron when his teleprompter dies than to worry about one family of donors.

If you're ever going to do something major (like run for president) then its unavoidable that you're going to piss some people off. You can't worry about that too much, and still be an effective leader.

housesub4you -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/7/2008 4:27:49 AM)

Yea......because McCain has yet to screw up any thing in his speeches.

I think it's interesting that even when the McCain camp admits to making an error in judgememt, some people just can't admit he screwed up.

TheHeretic,

Sadly, it was really just a matter of time. (Like Obama said today... it's like these people are proud of being ignorrant.)

Has anyone else noticed how fucking surreal this election cycle is becoming? I don't mean to derail my own thread here... but McCain giving a pro-nuclear speech in front of the Fermi II reactor outside Detroit? Um... he DOES realize this was the reactor that was the inspiration for both the book, "We Almost Lost Detroit" and the movie "The China Syndrome?" And that just five years ago, it had to be shut down, and local, outdoor school activities had to be canceled, due to possible radioactive steam release?

Just askin'...

Thanks for noticing this, I was afraid no one else picked up on the fact that he was preaching the safety of nuclear power by a melt down. Is he really that stupid?

When did Fermi II have a meltdown?

If I passed the muzzle of a loaded and cocked gun by your head a few times with my finger on the trigger, you could reasonably argue that you`ve been put in danger.

I can reasonably argue that since you weren`t harmed in any way, you were never in danger.

That`s what "new-q-ler" accidents are like.Perhaps no one died, but the potential is catastrophic.

I don`t see how the public was ever duped into thinking it was a safe or even cheap energy source.

It`s neither.

added:

But sinse McCain`s new running mate Paris likes nuclear power,I guess it`s kinda hot.

Let's try making this simple to understand.  He claimed that FERMI II (2) had a MELTDOWN.  I haven't mentioned anything about the hazzards or potential hazzards of a mishap.  I asked for the information showing that Fermi 2 had a meltdown, since I live in the state that it supposedly happened, and happened to live alot closer to it just a couple of years ago.  SO if you would like to provide the information on when Fermi 2 had a meltdown, I would be very appreciative.

Owner59 -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/7/2008 7:18:40 AM)

gush gush

The point is new-q-ler power is stupid.

The factinistas are getting wet over a perceived mis-statement.

Get out a noose!

lol

Can we get back on topic;the retarded McCain ad that has made him a laughing stock and the clever response by Miss Hilton?

Isn`t Paris the one who`s supposed to be shallow and out of touch?

Intelligent rebuttal... didn't you attempt the same thing over a decimal point in the last couple of days?  Then again we don't have to look all that far to find every post you have made about perceived mis-statements by certain politicians....

I guess facts aren't that important when discussing an issue for you, but some of us seem to think they are pretty important. Who woulda thunk it?

Owner59 -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/7/2008 7:31:16 AM)

Hey,start a thread about nuclear power...

<yawn>

This one`s about McCain`s new running mate,Miss Hilton.

Thadius -> RE: The Paris Response Ad (8/7/2008 7:41:59 AM)

The op is the one that took this down this road... I was just sticking to the topic.

Unfortunately, Paris can't be his running mate.  Although it would make for a very "interesting" campaign.
