FangsNfeet -> RE: Politically Correct Terms for 2006 (12/20/2005 2:50:59 PM)

Man, I say there is no way to poiticaly tell a person Merry Christmas or Happy New Year. "Merry Christmas" upsets people who aren't christain or don't celebrate christmas. "Happy Hollidays" offends the christains. In Target, cashiers are only allowed to say "happy holidays" to customers. The chinese have there New Year a month after just about everyone else. No matter what is said, someone is always upset and takes offense to the whole damn thing of the things celebrated in the month of December. If someone says "Happy Kawanza" and you reply "Merry Christmas" it implies a religious rivalry. By saying happy holidays, it can imply that you don't have religion. Everyone seems to be trying so hard at being considerate that it only ends up being offensive to everyone. For crying out loud. Just about every religion, culture, and belief seems to have the same ideas for December. Friends and family gather together the eat, drink, and be merry along with the idea of giving gifts and being extra cheritable. Why is it now that we have such a big politically correct term for that? It's amazing how just little things make such a big deal even when the world still has to deal with war, famine, and disease. No matter what you say, you're going to offend someone. So you might as well just say what you want because you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
