Bad news for Obama fans;

quote:

Poll: Nearly half hearing too much about Obama

Barack Obama may be the fresh face in this year's presidential election, but nearly half say they're already tired of hearing about him, a poll says.

With Election Day still three months away, 48 percent said they're hearing too much about the Democratic candidate, according to a poll released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Just 26 percent said the same about his Republican rival, John McCain.

Doh! That can't be good...

You DO realise that you, as well as a string of others on these boards, have been more than largely contributing to Obama's media exposure, don't you? Obama this, Obama that... you guys never seem to concentrate on your candidate and his positive points. You constantly talk of Obama though. Is it because there isn't much to be said about McCain's greatness that you have to keep on reminding us of the alternative?

Is it funny, or is it tragic? Or both?

And you DO see the irony of this very thread, you do... Don't you  ?

How weird; I bet I see 4 McCain commercials for every Obama commercial that runs here.  Maybe I'm in a swing state.

It wan't a poll of collarme members, kitten.

And just a little hint for you... everything can't be "tragic" and "ironic". You're overusing those two words just a wee bit of late...

My words only reflect what I witness, Sanity... Let's make a compromise: we'll call this anti-Obama obsession a tragicomedy.

If you don't like political discussion don't click on these threads, kitten. For all your complaining, you do more than your share of political bashing yourself (in case you haven't noticed).

I guess all of the anti-McCain and anti-Bush threads don't exist... hell even threads that don't have to do with politics usually end up with a shot at one or the other of them.

Afternoon Sanity,

I do think we are seeing some over saturation of the various Obamania stories and ads.  As Obama himself stated, eventually the newness and novelty will wear off.  I am not sure we are there yet, but more folks are looking for substance in place of flowery speeches.

The McCain campaign is being run just like every other time he has run for office, slow.  There have been plenty of gaffs, and to his credit he is still in a virtual deadheat, and that is with Obama being in the prime of his likeability.  Something is going on, I just can't put my finger on it.

I think the apathy for this election cycle is only going to get worse, as some people start to wake up with hangovers from the buzz.

Just my thoughts,
Thadius

Thanks, for helping to spread the word!

Do you think people are tired of whiny/complainy?

The only person you can blame for the fact Obama is always in the news is the other candidate who insists on mocking him with TV adverts all the time. It's almost a stroke of genius to publicise the other candidate to the point where it's all you hear about and so the resentment of that candidate starts. Very clever and manipulative the Republican party are, they know how to push peoples buttons I'd say. The American people will not fall for this ploy, no I say. They are far too intelligent to fall for this obvious republican ploy. All I can say is: it just proves how little they know about the country they claim to love if they know so little about the people, in trying to trick them in this wholeheartedly underhanded way.

Wonder how much of this reporting is being influenced by the PUMA's? According to reports they are planning a big show of support for Senator Clinton in Denver.

quote:

Nationwide, Clinton's staunchest supporters refer to themselves as "PUMAs," short for "Party Unity My A--."
The city issued a permit Tuesday to Colorado Women Count/Women Vote for a parade on Aug. 26 - the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage and the date Clinton is rumored to be speaking at the DNC.
The group also will team with 18 Million Voices, a national organization of Clinton supporters, for a rally in a yet-to-be-determined Denver park. Source: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/aug/06/group-plans-to-hail-hillary/

It should make for a spirited convention. Unlike recent national political conventions, I anticipate good TV ratings. Perhaps reaching levels unseen since Chicago 1968.

Oh there is great irony, kittin. More than you realize. In dimensions you do not know.

People are seeing too much of Obama....and the more they see, the less they want to see.

Tragic....but only for the Democrats.

Let's see... a thread deploring the amount of publicity a candidate is getting does little more than publicise the candidate in question. Especially following the plethora of threads that you, clord in particular, have posted on the man. Obama. Let me repeat his name again, for the pleasure: Obama. Thadius has contributed to this effort remarkably well too, Sanity as well.

Your complaint that Obama is getting too much airtime should be addressed at yourselves first : otherwise, why don't you spend your time elevating McCain's candidacy? I still haven't seen an answer to that question... You do realise that hammering your negative opinion of Obama does little, if nothing, to convince others, don't you? It may help comfort you in your opinion... but all it does otherwise is make his name into even more of an acceptable household name.

I'm not complaining: I think it's quite wonderful.

But, nobody here is complaining.

It was a national poll, kitten. Not a collarme poll.

The reason I posted the story and the reason I that think it's a valid part of the wider political discussion here is that it's noteworthy that people are burning out on Obamamania already. It's surprising to me, and I sincerely believe that it's got major implications for the home stretch of the presidential campaign.

What complaint are you even talking about. Whose complaint.

I see PBS got 2 of the debates....

I am sorta sick of the election cycle.  As if it really REALLY matters.

Maybe the establishment will wake up on Noverber 3rd to a Ron Paul- president.

First let me say thank you for the kind words.

To answer the question I highlighted... it's an easy one...because some of us are not supporting McCain at this time?  However, when I make up my mind on which candidate I will be voting for, I am sure I will make a topic explaining why.

I am still confused about the use of the word complaining, are you suggesting that discussing trends in polls is somehow complaining?  A bit sensitive to the discussion of issues and current polls are you?  If you think it is bad now, I hate to see how you are going to feel in Sept. or Oct.

For the record, I am currently leaning towards Bob or McCain.

Nothing's bad, it's all good: in fact, as I stated earlier, it's immensely enjoyable to witness the whole thing (whilst keeping its relative importance in context, of course - there are more important things happening in the world than this little election, although I will admit to finding it difficult to tear myself from the suspence.).

The season started early(only b/c Bush stinks so much, lol) and folks are in a bit of a mid campaign slump, but 4 bucks a gallon will go a long way to refresh people`s interest.

The GOP clown act is pretty entertaining though.....and keeps things lively.

The election is 90 days from today, jsyk.

Glad you feel that way... Oh wait are you even able to vote here?  For Americans, this "little election" is going to change some very important things.
