Hello, all.

I've done a careful search and have found no discussion of this particular topic, but forgive me anyway if this has ever been discussed.

I was examining websites when I came across this page:

http://www.fantasyleatherworks.com/estimulation.htm

Has anyone had any experience with such devices using a home stereo?   And for those electro play experts out there, couldn't I accomplish the same thing by taking a 1/8" mono jack and put the positive wire on an electrode on one side of a rubber butt plug and the negative wire on an electrode on the other side of the butt plug?

Thanks for any help you can share!

Ive done it, but dont recommend it.

You need proper (electrical) isolation between toy and the stereo otherwise things could go horribly wrong.

PleaseTieMeDown, could you be a little more specific as to what you mean by proper isolation?  And exactly what could go wrong (besides the obvious of frying my parts.)

Thanks.

Well, all, I guess the discussion is mute now.  Last night I broke down and ordered a ReliaMed Analog EMS Unit from ActiveForever.com for $43.95.  I wasn't expecting to get it until sometime next week, but the unit arrived JUST NOW!!!

I know an EMS unit isn't quite like an actual TENS, but I wanted to start out slow, and I'm on a budget anyway.

But if anyone would like to continue the conversation, I would be interested in learning what I can about the possibility of a home stereo system.

Take care, all.

Any device attached to the human body that plugs in or is AC wired (not battery) powered needs to be conected through an Isolation Transformer. The transformer needs to be selected to meet or exceed the power requirement of the device to be powered. This is usually stated in VA (the product of volts and amps), or in Watts. There are many made of electronic use, but the official ones are medical approved for safety.(cost a good bit more) Also any outlet used should be protected with a "GFI" (ground fault interuptor)
  Lets not fry anyone now!
A lot of older electrical devices have direct connections from one side (hopefully the Nutral or earth grounded one) of the AC plug to the device chassis, or output common connection. Suppose Freds cuzin was the brother of a guy who once knew an electrician. or the factory in China had a new assembly guy wireing the sterio...

My rule is you should always test your new toy on your SELF first... lol

note: it takes one amp to kill someone. note: your wall is capable of producing between 20-50 and sometimes higher.

most devices you're thinking about using are that aren't meant for it don't have the kind of limiters you'd want for use as electro devices.

generally, if you're dealing with a power adapter, you have a cord, and a box. the box is what regulates the power and controls the supply/demand portion of what's going on. if you get that wet, or it surges for any other reason, it will BLOW the capacitors inside the box, loosing what your wall is capable of. and that's the difference between battery operated electro and wall operated devices. battery operated let you control your muscles, wall power LOCKS YOUR MUSCLES IN PLACE. if you need to let go of your home-made electro box, you wont be able to.

if you're going to use the speaker terminals of your home stereo, ... your safety, provided that nothing surges, is dependant upon the wattage of your speakers.
if your speakers are capable of producing an amp's worth of power, you might die. if it comes close, it might be enough.

just buy a kit or rig something with batteries. (don't use a car battery, you can get by with a 6v lantern cell.)

It is fine to warn of dangers in electric play, but parts of what you are saying aren't quite correct. Even medical tens units are powered by 110 volts. And yes if you pour water on the electrical toy it will burn or kill you, but but that is also true of hair dryers and radios in the bath tub.
using a stereo for electric play , since the speaker power is very low voltage/current isn't overly dangerous. The danger comes from where you put the electrodes. I have even made some of my own attachments for electro play. But i use them safely

As long as one reads and knows the safety rules ,, and the toy they are using, , oh and common sense.. it is usually very safe
