My fave teacher was called Mlle Mariette - final two years at high school. She had a PhD in maths, but she taught French and Ancient Greek, because it rocked her boat more. She was fun, and extremely competent.

Oh, and Mme Lemonier was a wonderful history teacher too.

I wonder where they are now... But to all the teachers out there who sweat to ensure our children receive a decent academic education, I say a big 'Thank you!'. I fully realise it doesn't make up for inadequate salaries though. When is our society going to pay its educators properly?

All time favorite was probably a music history teacher in high school.  I took ten classes of his, and did an individual study program with him one semester.  I also had a piano teacher in high school who made a huge impact on me.  Two hours a week of one-on-one time with him for four years.  How I hated him at times, but I had a lot of respect for him, and our hard work paid off.

My twelfth grade British literature teacher was also wonderful.  He had a way of inspiring everyone in the class, and made it unlike any other literature class I ever took.  We watched Trainspotting, listened to Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.  We had to write satirical essays in the style of Swift's A Modest Proposal.  We learned some Middle English, then each student had to take turns reading parts of The Canterbury Tales to class.  Mass humiliation!

My favorite teacher of all time was my first grade teacher, Sr. Mary Louise.  She was an amazing teacher, and as a nun very under paid. She spent time with a child who didn't get time at home and made her feel wanted.

Do you feel today's teachers get paid enough for what they do?

Some do, some don't.  Many are not educating our children.  Look at television lately.  When is the last time you saw a commercial that wasn't utterly stupid?  I know several teachers who get their lesson plans off the internet.  These people are being paid way too much for the job they are doing.

Then you have the teacher who shines.  The one who really wants to teach..and he/she does.  Those ones aren't getting paid enough.

My favorite teacher in school was my college bound English teacher.  Tenth grade.  We read books..and re-wrote them.  The woman thought I had talent.  Just something about her class made me want to come back.

My 6th grade teacher, Virginia Broe.
Her father was a doctor and would come into the classroom and give us "guest lectures" on occaision.
She was a great teacher, always kept your interest up.
Also my English teacher at Shaw Prep in Boston, Mr Mc Donough, he was the same, always a very interesting class!
