Status: offline 		This just in, at least on a sort of local front.  Kwame Kilpatrick was just ordered to jail, I guess he decided to go to Canada without informing the courts...

This comes after he had another incident with assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Edited: to fix the spelling, of the Mayor's name.

Status: offline 		Shocking thing (at least to me) is that he still has supporters in Detroit. Some of the comments I read after reading articles about this just blew me away, poor Kwame being abused by Da Man.

Status: offline 		I used to work at Woodward and Adelaide, about a block north of Fisher back in 1985. Not a great area. There was a stabbing in the lobby in front of my desk and one time I had to get gas on the way home. The guy charged me 50.00, I was too scared to say otherwise back when gas was probably about a buck a gallon. Looking back I'm just floored that my father had me working in a Section 8 housing building!

The architecture was beautiful on those old buildings but there was such a pervasive feeling of unhappiness and anger. I'd always hoped Detroit would come back but I don't think it can. Its an odd city IMO.

Status: offline 		I've always believed that the Mayor-council form of municipal government is the worst, possible system.  Examples like Detroit just prove me right.  Almost any city in this country that is decaying, crime-ridden, and rife with corruption has this form of government.

Status: offline 		I was born in Detroit, and have watched the place go from a beautiful, vibrant city to a pit of decay with little islands of redevelopment.  I do indeed blame the government--I was a city employee for awhile, and got to see it firsthand.

Status: offline 		Well the good news for Kwame is that Granholm is the one that gets to decide if the ousting proceedings even go forward, then she is the one that presides over that hearing.  She needs him in office, he helps keep some of the pressure off of her.

Or she could play both sides of the fence, allow the hearing, but then find that there isn't enough evidence to oust him, or some technicality.

This will be a circus.  Unfortunately, I think it will distract folks in the city from the presidential election.

I think you are right about the distraction.  It is a shame, that many were already apathetic, still others are pissed about the whole primary thing, and now this.  I would love to see a huge turnout here, even if the votes don't go the way I vote, just to say don't take this state for granted.
