Have you ever walked out halfway through a movie?  Why?  I remember doing it several years ago when my girlfriend and I went to see 'Hope Floats'; all I really remember is we were both in tears and it wasn't at all what we had expected.

Yes. One movie that I considered to be in bad taste. Another one that disgusted me for its content and predictability and bad story.

Oh sure... I think we all have. (Got my money back too!) The movie is quite recent... a smelly little turd of a movie called "Expelled." I've never been so disappointed by a guy I used to halfway admire (Ben Stein) in my life. I just don't tolerate being lied to, and I sure as hell won't pay $7.50 to give a bunch of creationist nut-jobs the opportunity to do so.

Yes.  "Chariots of Fire".  One wouldn't think that a movie about men running around in their underwear would be so deadly boring, but there you have it. And that awful Vangelis score made it worse.

I am not afraid to walk out on a movie. I walked out on Full Disclosure when I was 15, and Eyes Wide Shut, there have been plenty other disappoints I'm sure, I just can't remember them all.

bipolarber -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 7:45:33 PM)

PTS,

I can kinda relate to Eyes Wide Shut. Kubrick at his usual ponderous self. (Only he could make a movie about kinky sex seem dull.) But the movie did have a few high points, so I stuck it out.

Mainly, the woman who "saves" Cruise at the sex club...
LeeLee Sobrinski (sp?)
and the soundtrack...

One of these days, (when I'm particularly masochistic) I may try watching it again... but only if it's the european version, without all the CGI people standing in the way of the fucking. (total cop-out on Kubrick's part, to allow that kind of image manipulation in the first place.)

I was ready to walk out during "The Pet," but then I remembered I was watching it at home.

I walked out of a movie called "Greed"  3/4 of the way through. But I came in 1/4 of the way in to it, so I guess that equals 1/2.[;)]

No, I am very picky about the movies we see. I will scrutinize every aspect of the previews and reviews; if I find any flaw I don't go and see them. Needless to say we see very few movies.

pissthirstysub -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 7:54:19 PM)

I went to see it because it was Kubrick, but just couldn't sit through it. Later, I did rent it or was forced to watch it or something, and still found it pretty intolerable. I  agee, more nudity would have added some artistic value to it.

TheHeretic -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 7:56:19 PM)

I've walked out on a lot of movies.  Why sit there if it sucks?  This is the beauty of multiplex, second run theaters.  $1 to get in, something should be worth seeing, and if not, the a/c was worth the admittance.

If you rent a movie, and it blows, do you watch all the way to the end?

Evility -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 8:00:17 PM)

One movie I should have walked out on was "The English Patient". That was the longest three days of my life.

slaveboy291 -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 8:04:15 PM)

Nightmare Before Christmas.  God that film was horrible.   I should've known it was bad by the fact that most of the people who were going to see it above the age of 14 were dropping acid just to enjoy the film.

I don't usually walkout of movies, with ticket prices the way they are.   I nearly walked out of the Halloween remake.(why Rob why?)

NeedingMore220 -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 8:09:50 PM)

I almost walked out of I am Legend recently.  I'm like a poster above who scrutinizes what she sees carefully, so I don't go to many clunkers.  Kids movies, OTOH ... I forget if there were 2 or 3 Pokemon movies that my son at the time HAD TO SEE and I napped.  Hideous, god-awful dreck.  I felt like the world's best mom leaving the theater for actually not dragging him out of the theater after 5 minutes of Pikachu!

Is it sad that I am young enough that I saw those three Pokemon Movies that were in theaters.

The ability to start and stop a movie at will is definatly a factor, as is the ability to walk away and do something else. The movie will definatly be on the whole time.

I believe I walked out of The Hours.  The way it kept jumping back and forth and back and forth just wasnt working for me, because I couldnt keep up with the jumping as there wasnt much of a segway.  Ugh.

Leatherist -> RE: Ever Walked Out Halfway Thru a Movie? (8/7/2008 8:25:38 PM)

"never ending story part two" got yanked out about halfway through watching it-and sent back to the video store.
