ORIGINAL: ScooterTrash Now and then it seems that a combination like this comes together, Jaco had his own style (& was instrumental in the development of fretless bass techniques) and for many it's a love it or hate it observation. For a current but similar observation you might want to check out Victor Wooten and his performances with some of the folks he teams up with. Again, it is a matter of taste, but currently he is arguably the hot item as far as bass players go, certainly not mainsteam, but his talent jumps out loud and clear. I can't imagine what's "love/hate" about Jaco, as he's clearly one of the most influential bassists of the 20th century--and everyone has heard his work, even if only from Joni Mitchell tracks. Victor Wooten is not really so innovative, but he's certainly an amazing bassist, stretching esablished styles of playing to their limits. Primarily he works with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (their electronic percussionist, "Futureman," is Victor's brother).
