Hey all, I've been searching the forums for information on modifying electric fly swatters, but most of the information I've found is on turning one into a homemade taser. We're looking to modify it in a way that would allow us to adjust the intensity with a dial or switch. My boyfriend is a roboticist, so he is experienced in working with electrical components, so no set of instructions would be too advanced. If you have any experience with this sort of thing, or have any helpful links, please share! He's currently working on something that would allow him to switch between taking power from just one battery or both, but we'd like to know if anyone else has come up with a better solution. If we don't get any other ideas, it should work, and we'll be happy to share how we modified ours if people are interested :)

Someone in my local community made circut boards that control the fly swater "motors" so to speak. He set it up so you can control up to 8 with a infrared remote and can set the intensity to 11 different levels. So, it is possible.

We are having a yellow jacket infestation problem here and I have been using one of these devices to ZAP them. Yesterday I accidently Zapped myself. I had no idea they were that powerful. Might be a good idea to be able to control this if you want to use it on a person. It's fun when the bugs pop and catch fire tho!

http://www.geocities.com/brahma_finland/fly.htm Here's a good dissection of one, as well as instructions for upgrading it to 9vdc... ignore the part about converting to 2 prongs...should be a simple matter to replace one of the resistors with a rheostat.

By the way, this particular device is commonly hidden from a Master or Mistress by the slaves. They visible cringe and shuffle their feet when it is merely mentioned.

a while back i did a wiring control for hooking a tens unit's battery to a computer output card for remote control, and it had a pot and simple circuit for controlling the output of the 9 volt battery. the wiring info and parts list are off my main page, at the bottom click the link for Wiring for a parallel relay out put card with voltage control http://www.slavechris.com

No worries. We're not in a M/s relationship, and at the moment there is no toy added to the toybox that isn't talked about and tested beforehand. The relationship is foremost a romantic one... kink comes second, and he has no desire to do anything to me that I would really hate.
