sistermargaret -> what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/11/2008 7:52:35 PM)

A long while ago, while i ws trying to decide if i actually wanted to explore the D/s side of BDSM, a Dominant in our Group told me to forget that idea because i'm 'untrainable'.  He's a pompas ass, but the comment kind of upset me, mainly because i don't know what that means. Could someone here explain that to me? What is 'trainable' and 'untrainable'?

What he probably meant to imply is that you are somehow less because you don't fit his idea of what a "twue" submissive is or does.  Sounds to me like you hit the nail on the head by acknowledging that he's a pompous ass.  That's really all it means.  Forget it and move on.

Common parlance for untrainable seems to be "Pigheaded bitch"

If you can learn how to answer the phone, change channels on the TV with the remote, and make a frozen entree you are trainable. If you don't bow down and kiss the feet of the person who said it, you are untrainable. Easy, really, when you break it down though I wonder if he would get it.

Just remember that intelligence is an important component of a good Dominant. If he's not smart enough to be able to train you, then he's not smart enough to be your Dominant. What he said was about *his* abilities, not yours.

I would assume it means that he considers you unable to be trained. You don't care, you don't have the patience, etc. However, I would advise that you ignore him. You probably just don't fit his narrow defination of what being a slave or a submissive means.

hopelessfool -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/11/2008 8:02:48 PM)

If you can learn to do any type of skill with in reason you can be "trained in it"  There are somethings you can never be trained to do (gender/physical) limitations.

you are untrainable, if you refuse to learn skills you are capable of doing. Like learning how to walk in step with your partner, or clean the way he likes, or dress as he sees pleasing.

I tend to think it is a good thing. What is the fun in going along with everyone else. But I also enjoy being a brat.

As far as what that...... Dom said, I agree with most everyone else you were probably too much of a handful for him. Some Doms don't want a "challenge", and speaking as a "challenge" it just takes a while to find the perfect fit with someone else. I believe everyone is "trainable" it is just a question of who is willing to put forth the effort to do so. If anything it tells me you are a very special person who deserves a very special Dom. If anything I think he might need some training *giggle* But I ever the good little subbie would never say that *wink*

I once had someone say that I wasn't a "real slave" because when he squealed his tires around a mountain curve going 80, I held on.
Generally speaking when people throw around accusations about what someone else is capable or incapable of being, what they're really saying is that you intimidate them and/or they're delusional :)

Lockit -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/12/2008 12:03:35 AM)

LOL... I had a pompus idiot once tell me I was untrainable... okay he was right... but he was still an ass!

mastervalentine -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/12/2008 12:17:02 AM)

It has been my experience that everyone, to some extent, is trainable. Even a dominant personality can be given patterns of learned behavior. If one has a steady enough hand, and the right mindset they can command even the most difficult cases. It boils down to ego. Someone with the right mindset and a strong enough self could dominate just about anyone, given time and opportunity. History's sheep may have a high volume of self-defeating idiots, but a good number of some truly strong people have found themselves obeying the whims of a questionable but charismatic leader.

If someone says you are untrainable, I'd hazard a guess and say what they should really be saying is a variance on "I'm incompetent and/or lazy" or in the case of the mostly competent, "Yours is a spirit that I can not mold."

Yeah....what Michael said.

softness -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/12/2008 3:15:02 AM)

untrainable - either you are perfect ... or he needed to stop by the Dom shop, and buy a clue.

The only way you could be untrainable is if you had no desire to learn, but even then there are cattle prods ... so even the most stubborn person can be trained ... even if all they learn is to fear the opening of the cage door.

and wow ... am even starting to sound like DV

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/12/2008 5:35:04 AM)

personally, i don't see untrainable as unwillingness to learn.

it's a trait used in which Daddy didn't need to undo my character or teach me tricks to become a better submissive. it's His way of saying I accept you as you are - no training required.

simpleplan2 -> RE: what does 'untrainable' mean? (8/12/2008 5:41:26 AM)

Well, the whole concept of "training" tends to set my teeth on edge, so I'd prolly say thanks.  But then I don't think anyone needs to be "trained" to be a human being,..shown or told how someone likes something done...sure, but trained?  Nah, I already know how to do most of the stuff I need to.

Bingo. And 'brat' is pretending to to the former when they are actualy the latter.

Just because someone is a brat or untrainable for one person doesn't mean they will be for another if the chemistry and motivation is there.
