Do any others feel that criticising your government's foreign policy is a personal attack on yourself?  Why can't people be individuals first and drones of their government a distant 25th or 26th?  Just say "no" to a dumbed-down polarised debate.  [:D]

As a Brit, I think the British state is totally fucked and its foreign policy, hypocritical, mendacious and totally flawed. It wouldn't upset me to see the British establishment kicked into touch.

I criticize my government all of the time.... however I usually don't feel the need to add to the already loud voices that do so on a regular basis around here.  Also my reasons, are usually for a different reason.

Just like I didn't take offense to the personal swipe at my intelligence by somebody else in this thread...  I prefer to discuss the issues, not the people making them.

How do you know people's reasons for their opinions, are you gifted in telepathy?

I was speaking to the complaint itself, not motive.

A cease fire is good but how can Russia tell a foreign president to step down?

I do not know how it was represented to you in the news but Georgia was the country who made the first move and attacked Ossetia . After that Russia entered the war and became a side. I am not supporting Russia but Georgia's decision of solving its problems with war was a mistake from the beginning. What was their president thinking when Russia is there waiting an excuse to step in? He was supposed to know better than anybody else, once he invaded Ossetia, Russia was going to join the war. And what was he expecting , winning the war and becoming a hero?

Now the way they see it, the president who started the war should step down. Not a very bad request if Russia will get out of Georgia and people will be able to return back their homes and lives. Unfortunatly people always suffer when they have war hungry presidents.

Funny, haven`t heard you say much in the way of criticism here of gov.,accept for Obama or liberals.

Yet you claim you be un-bias,fair-minded and mutually sympathetic.

To be fair,I don`t read all your posts,but you`re anything but un-biased.

I don`t try to pretend,at least.

To Thad,

Honest question,honest answer.

Whould we be in half the trouble we`re in now,had the neo-cons not taken office?

Name 2 foreign leaders that were elected by the people that have been overthrown by the US? And please stay away from the "elections" of Saddam...

The US has participated in installing new governments by force or covert operations in: Guatemala, Chile, The Philippines, a failed attempt in Cuba, IRAQ, Afghanistan, IRAN, Nicaragua (failed attempt), El Salvador, and Greece.

I never said I was unbiased.  I also don't run through threads blaming everything on one side or the other.  One can be fair minded and have a bias.

To answer you question though.

Regardless of your definition of what a neo-con is...  Half of the incidents that have been mentioned by others in this thread happened during Dem administrations, so my answer is yes.  We would be in at least half of the trouble we are in now, and arguably just as much.  For example, the tragedy of 9-11 would have happened regardless of who was elected.  Know what I mean?

The latest information is that a truce has been negotiated -

"Russia and Georgia have agreed a truce brokered by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and have approved the principles of a full peace plan."
