To me.  Vanilla is.  A lifestyle I never want to return to.    [:D]

and then remember that inept 16 year old horny boys pull and nipples as if trying to detach them,

Some of us dirty old men like doing that too. Maybe I am reliving my youth?

Ah, but you're doing it on purpose... they aren't... or are they, just ignorantly... grrr, you try drawing a kinky line.

Missokyst -> RE: "vanilla" Meaning (8/12/2008 4:25:03 PM)

I gotta admit I enjoy that attempt to tug off the nipples.
Kinky line..?  Looks something like this VVVVV

I never thought referring to relationship as vanilla was racist; however, it perhaps is slightly. Black people are referred as chocolate. ie "Going to get a little chocolate lovin tonight". It is accepted as ok to say "once you go black, you will never go back". The implication is that black people are perhaps wilder and better in bed. Therefore if black people are better at sexual technicques, then white people are a little more bland. And since chocolate can refer to blacks then vanilla can refer to white. I would have to agree with the friend on this. Perhaps that is why I never like referring to non bdsm relationships as vanilla.

Yep, uh huh... *sure* you do.

Holy smokes.. thats what chocolate is?  Why did I always assume people meant bending over for sex?

There's a T-shirt at the club I go to that says,"I DO the things you're afraid to fantasize about."

If Vanilla is Racist...then why doesn't McCormick, or Watkins sponsor NASCAR?
(Someone who makes their living in the Sciences is a scientist, if in the Arts, then an artist..so Stock Car drivers are by definition Racists!)

ok, so next time I come over to the states, we can have a nice dinner, share a bottle of wine, light some candles, put on some Frank Sinatra low in the back ground.  Gently kiss, and undress, lay together on the bed, and make sweet gentle, romantic love in the missionary position ...

that would make me orgasm .... I know it would make *you* sick to your stomach ... but it sure would float my boat

This comment really got me thinking.  My marriage was mostly vanilla (we had kinky sex.. and phases where we would play for weeks or even months, but it never left the bedroom) for more than a decade before we added this more permanent D/s aspect to it and became 'lifestylers' and I have to say that the adoption of this new paradigm has in fact made us re-examine many aspects of our relationship.  In turn, we have a new level of trust, that we never even knew existed before, our communication has improved also (though that may be because the need for good communication suddenly reasserted itself.. like many couples whe had moved from normal talk to a sort of combination of shorthand and E.S.P.  but this new dynamic took us back to actually talking again).  I could not say I love her more than I would if we had remained vanilla, but I have new ways to show that love which allows us to feel it on a deeper level..

There is a big difference between saying, D/s allows me to have a deeper more meaningful relationship with my partner and saying D/s relationships are deeper and more meaningful than mainstream relationships.

For me, being in this relationship is more fulfilling than any other.  That doesn't mean that my relationship is any more meaningful than my best friend's relationship that is very mainstream.  It just means that we are both in the relationships that are best suited for us.

The other day a friend and i got chatting, and fell onto the topic of BDSM. He said the thought the term "vanilla" was racist.

I looked at him funny and thought how can anyone be that dumb..

But it got me thinking. I was wondering whether i took it the right way.

So thought i'd ask

You all mean vanilla as "plain" "normal" and NOT "white"

Im SURE im right i just need to prove to him hes wrong, i just couldnt find a discussion on here. I tried a dictionary but obviously "vanilla" is listed as a flavouring grown from a pland and not listed in any metaphoriacal sense.

Thanks.

You think that's silly?  In 2005, Maxtor, Inc got sued because, as is the industry standard, their drive controller PIN jumpers were labeled "Master" and "Slave".  Apparently, someone decided a late-20th century California-based company had perrogatives in instigating racial slavery again.  Very sad.
You'll notice, of course, that all Maxtor (now Seagate) drives still label as "Master" and "Slave".  Take that, people with too much free time!

MasterBlock -> RE: "vanilla" Meaning (8/13/2008 9:06:37 PM)

So other then "vanilla" which word or words  would replace the same. When in public most people our lifestye revert to the "vast majority" way of acting so to speak
