"not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime."

http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=5565214&page=1

These are interesting times.

I waiting for AG Mukasey to grab his lower jaw with one hand, his upper with the other and rip his off with Alberto Gonzalez climbing out. He`s just as bad.

With the constant drip drip drip of corruption and wrongdoing coming from the neo-conservatives, no wonder it sounds like I`m always mentioning the crooks ,when I`m just reading the news.

Go see the thread on the dismissal of the Valerie Plame suit. They are immune from civil penalties for CRIMINAL acts , too... Not just the mamby-pamby lawyering of this Mukasey-Piece-of-Shit.

This system needs a 'digg-up/digg-down' feature....

well of course they have to redefine crime, another president is coming to the end of his term, he and his cronies need to cover their asses.  what else is new in american politics?  business as usual.  and THAT is the real crime.

Technically,I guess, the bushies will be crime free.

History will be less sympathetic, unless the neo-cons revise that too.lol

In order for an act to be a *crime* punishable by imprisionment it *must* fit a penal statute.  I am not a criminal lawyer, but I do have extensive adminsirative law expertise, including civil service at the state level.

It would appear to me that the Inspector General found evidence of violations of the civil service code at issue.  While such a violation may well not rise to the level of  a *crime*, it almost certainly constitutes a violation of the ethics requirements imposed on the wrong-doers.  Doubtless such consequences as job loss are clearly provided for in the event of such violations.

Failure to carry out the dismissals or other consequences provided for as to the wrong doers doubtless creates a ethical violation by the immediate supervisor..up the food chain...ultimately landing at least on the AG's desk, if not Bush's.

It will be interesting to see whether any bodies are dropped off the rocks....including those hired in the flawed process...and my guess is the answer will be 'no'.

There were crimes committed. Under CRIMINAL LAW.

Someone LIED during the investigation.

Lying to a fed is a violation of 18 USC 1001. Martha Stewart and Marion Jones went to FEDERAL PRISON for lying-while-not-under-oath-to-a-fed.

I'm not seeing these CRIMINALS being prosecuted for their violations of 18 USC 1001.

The next time a cop pulls me over for speeding, I'll have to remind him of this quote.

Some pigs, it seems, are more equal than others.

Now the Bushies are floating the notion of "Pre-emptive Pardons". It's not a crime, we don't think it's a crime, but if someone arrests you for this non-crime then here's your pardon. You have to love the Conservatives & their mantra of "Personal Responsibility". What a bunch of frauds & hypocrits

I'm not aware that Democrats are in much of a position at all to be discussing pardons given on the way out of office...

George Duhbya Bush his first day in office "pardoned" all companies forbidden to do business with the U.S. Government due to findings of theft & fraud. He allowed no-bid contracts to convicted thieves & liars, basically the Republican base.

When did W pardon Trie, Chung, Huang, Riady, Hisa, or Sioeng?  I didn't realize they were Republicans either...
