in the form of jewlery or tatoos that would indicate to others into BDSM that you are also involved??

I know this seems a strange question but I am curious.

Signs and symbols come in and out of usage. I know at one point a few years back, they were using a variation on the gay handkerchief, using a black handkerchief in the back pocket, but it never really did catch on. The problem almost always is that people have good intentions but nothing actually catches on strong enough to cause people to recognize it universally. Even collars don't do that, as it somehow became a fashion statement to have a collar with a lock. I've talked to people who wear such items, and they have NO IDEA what bdsm is, and think it's just fashion.

I have a personal emblem that someone made for me that will always be my favorite and I am working on creating some things with it.  Lotus has a pen for domme's that I hope to get, but I keep forgetting. lol I don't typically like a lot of the things I have seen and go more for a collar or lock or something like that.  Even with well accepted symbols, one never really knows if it is a fashion thing or the real interest in bdsm.

dragon, there is the triskle emblem that is now under your name here on the posts (but will be gone in 2 more posts, I believe) that tends to stand out as a BDSM emblem to others.  I happen to have that as a window decal.... and happen to have an extra one laying around, I think.  Bought them very inexpensively from a female slave here on CM-- she doesn't post in the forums tho -- about 2 years ago.  It's pretty neat.

I wear a silver ring on my finger that is a celtic triskele that Fox got me shortly after we got together. Those who dont know what a triskele means just think it is a very attractive ring. Those who do have caught on, somce have asked some have not.

Handcuffs... jewelry, tattoo's, or the actual things themselves being displayed somewhere.

Whips and floggers... Would seem obvious to me, but maybe not considered by others.

And never under estimate the power of aura. I've met many in the lifestyle who just have the presence of their role. In the way they move, the way they talk, the way they interact with the world around them. In most cases, I'll make a statement that a nilla person would overlook or shrug to, but someone in the lifestyle would respond or perk to.

Actually, I have a few.  The most obvious one is that I wear the key to the lock on clip's collar on a bracelet.  Of course, he wears the lock on his 'everyday' collar.  I also wear a ring on My left hand with a small ruby because red is his favorite color.  On the other hand, I wear My wedding ring.

Hanging from My rear view mirror in My car is a small set of cuffs that is just a couple of inches long.  They wouldn't fit a person.  Just a little something people can notice if they look.

It's not exactly a symbol, but I have a purse that looks something like a stiletto boot from the ankle down, with chains for purse strings.  It may not especially be an identifier to BDSM, but you wouldn't believe how many people notice and compliment Me on that purse!

The triskle is also a symbol used by some pagan groups too.

The most commonly used version of the triskele that I've seen used for bdsm is the one with the three holes in it.  I know the three parts of the triskele signify b/d, d/s and s/m, but can't remember what the holes are supposed to mean.

The triskele itself is an old Celtic or pre-Celtic symbol, but it's been used by many other groups, too.  I think that there are pre-Columbian American examples of it, as well.

I have a triskele tattoo, but it does not signify anything to do with bdsm; it represents the three phases of a woman's life: maiden, mother, crone.

As far as jewellry goes, my wedding ring is a chain, and my boy's ring is the same chain with an "O" ring on it.

Thank you all for your responses.  Here is some information that I was able to dig up.

Here is an explanation that I found at http://www.the-iron-gate.com/symbols/ about it’s meaning:

The BDSM emblem has no "obvious" symbolism because it was created to be enigmatic. To the vanilla observer who would be put off by BDSM, it is merely an attractive piece of jewelry. Thus, we can wear it freely as a friendly salute, nod, and wink to other BDSMers we should happen to pass on the sidewalks and in the hallways of our daily lives.
To the insider, however, the Emblem is full of meaning.
The three divisions represent the various threesomes of BDSM. First of all, the three divisions of BDSM itself: B&D, D&S, and S&M. Secondly, the three-way creed of BDSM behavior: Safe, Sane, and Consensual. Thirdly, the three divisions of our community: Tops, Bottoms, and Switches.
It is this third symbolism that gives meaning to the holes in each unit. Since BDSM is at the very least a play style and at its greatest a love style, the holes represent the incompleteness of any individual within the BDSM context. However "together" and "whole" individuals may be, there remains a void within them that can only be filled by a complimentary other. BDSM cannot be done alone.
The resemblance to a three-way variation on the Yin-Yang symbol is not accidental. As the curved outline of Yin and Yang represent the hazy border between where one ends and the other begins, so do the curved borders here represent the indistinct divisions between B&D, D&S, and S&M.
The metal and metallic color of the medallion represents the chains or irons of BDSM servitude/ownership. The three inner fields are black, representing a celebration of the controlled dark side of BDSM sexuality.
The curved lines themselves can be seen as a stylized depiction of a lash as it swings, or even an arm in motion to deliver an erotic spanking. The all-embracing circle, of course, represents the overlying unity of it all and the oneness of a community that protects its own.

And here is another interesting link concerning the guy who claims he owns the copyright to the emblem http://www.atruerose.com/rose/bdsmsymbol/myth.htm

In keeping with what I started here, what other images if you saw them would possibly make you think Dominant or submissive??

As a sub, i wear a silver bracelet (my collar) which has an identity plate in a Celtic woven design with a gold v[A] in the centre. A couple of people have worked out it is a symbol for being collared, others just think it's a nice bracelet! As a Domme, I have worn a gold chain with the initials M and J hanging from it.
