Hmmm...BDSM and cats...there seems to be some correlation.

Well, as they say, dogs have masters, cats have staff.

well this kitten has master

Back to the question-
I honestly have not the slightest idea. More often than not it seems that there is a blend of D and s that operates, one complementing [n.b. not complimenting] the other. The 'ratio', if there is any, is determined by circumstances. Faced with my sister, my cats, or with a sultry baritone voice, i am nearly 100% sub. Any number of other things bring out a decidedly dominant streak.

And then much of what i do and who i am could easily be interpreted either way. My uncompromising attitude on various ethical issues, for example, could be seen as strong-willed self-assertion or an overwhelming eagerness to be good. When attending childbirth, i am called to serve, to guide, to guide in service and to serve in guidance. I've given up trying to tell the difference.

Back off the topic-
Thank you for the lovely picture, Lady Angelika! Humble compliments [n.b. not complements] to His Majesty.

I have encountered way too many people who think that a submissive means some spineless and ignorant wimp who lacks their own opinion on any issue.

To me, a submissive of class and education and intelligence and wit makes the act of submitting to me so much more profoundly wonderful.

I dont see a direct correlation between somebody who is submissive to another person requiring said person having to lack strong values, strong opinions, an education and the erudition to use it, etc.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

I have a tiny, tiny toppy side -- it's REALLY tiny -- but that's the % that gets me into trouble the most.

*sigh!*

think i got to make something else clear:
this kitten has a master to as in dom but this kitten has another master, a master's degree in mechanical engineering
so i guess even thought i migh class myself as slave on here and most of he time anyways doesn't mean i am stupid or lack education.

Heaven forbid. Profuse apologies if anything i said was suggestive of this attitude. I suppose i should qualify my earlier statement. On a stricly personal level, i tend to associate my more uncompromising stoic side with a dominant streak. This does not preclude 100% submissive people from having a just as uncompromisingly staunch disposition toward stoicism. Thank you for catching me.

Well i'm about 90% slave in a M/F relationship and about 100% dominant in any F/F relationship .. so ya do the math on that one, cause i'm tired of trying.

Wowwwwwww, do have to answer in percentages? I know what I feel deep inside and who I want to be. It isn't Top or Dominant but! I can be very stubborn in being "obediant" when things don't feel right. I need to work on that mindset and remember to apply it when it matters most and not over trivial things.

hoping that helps..

This is a great question and I've enjoyed the answers.

I am the role that I play. Not to say that BDSM is a game; except that it is, along with all of the rest of life.
We all wear costumes every day and play out our little roles on this earth.

As a mystic (Lawrence LeShan's definition) I strive to in the world but not of it. To completely embrace and fill the role I have, be it dominant, or therapist, or student, or customer, or martial artist, or tourist, or whatever. Yet all the while be aware from a position above and removed from that role, working to recognize the broader reality.

So, as a husband I could assign a percentage. I would say 80% dominant. Last year it would have been 75%. We started out as a vanilla couple with the hippie ideal of 50/50. That didn't work for us very well (does it ever?) and we have shifted more and more each year.

In other parts of my life things can be quite different. If I teach physiology, then I'm "in charge" but only feel about 60% dominant as I have a very relaxed and cooperative teaching style.

When I taught karate, I would say my role was 99% dominant. Respect was demanded and recieved and I was very strict. But most of my years as a martial artist have involved a lot of submission as well--when I find an instructor from whom I wish to learn I become very respectful and subservient because that is the role and place of the budoka.

In my former career, I shared a very unique power dynamic with my clients/patients. On the one hand they had to trust me and allow me to make decisions about their care which involved a lot of submission on their part but at the same time I always emphasized that it was I who worked for them (a concept all too lacking in most American healthcare) and emphasiszed this by presenting myself in a respectful(read submissive) manner.

As a college student, I'm never quite submissive enough. I tend to be more dominant than I should be and my grades can suffer as a result (after all, the professors still work for me).

So I run the gammut. I suspect a lot of others do as well, thery just don't analyze it as much.

When I am riding my bicycle I think I am must be a masochist. Climbing the hills around here is misery.

I think bicycle racers must be masochists because when they are interviewed it is common for them to talk about how they suffer. Must be endorphin junkies.

Ok, I figure I am 99% dominant except for the one percent ruled by the male cat we call King of the House. He nightly reasserts his dominance over me by sleeping on my head.

Oh Boy..had to give this some thought.
With Master its easy..I am 99% submissive and 1% in trouble.

With my children I am about 80% dominant and 20% too tired to put up with it so I give in and take the Little shopaholics to the mall. When it comes to schoolwork and their extracurricular activities I am 100% dominant. They will do their homework and if they join a team sport They will see it through. I love my kids more than my own life and I believe its my job to help shape them into responsible adults and I take that job very seriously. I am fortunate that my kids are wonderful people and make my job a lot easier than some I have run into.

With my 3 1/2 pound terror..err..terrier, I am a slave. Same goes for the love of his life,(who has no love at all for him in return but he keeps trying), our 20 pound cat who is the True Mistress in my home. (Although I believe she is a switch at times with the dog, since she allows him to chase her all over the house for about 40 minutes every day. Not 100% sure though because when I adopted her she weighed in at 37 1/2 pounds and the runs have reduced her bodyweight by nearly 1/2. I think she might have just been using him as exercise equipment).

I think for me personally, my averages vary day to day with my surroundings.

Well i would have to say that in my daily vanilla day to day and business life i am 95% dominant.

In my personal life with friends i am 90 % dominant.

Within relationships with lifestyle friends I am 50/50 depending on the people

and when it comes to being with a partner in the d/s realm of things i am 90% submissive.

Very complicated math!

That was not addressed at you, basiasubrosa, and I have never read anything you have posted which would make me think you felt the way I described in my comment. :)
