Well I've been into BDSM for a long while but have never had any real experience with it. I am an aspiring Dom, I love the control but it more than that I love the trust that is shared between the Dom and Sub. I am however a newbie but i love learning. But I was wondering if there are any good clubs in southern California that an aspiring Dom could go to get his feet wet sort o' speak, or is a club even the right setting to start out in?

If it were me, I'd check around to see if there were any local munch groups (I'd bet money there are). There, you'll find people who cover the full range of options in this life, and most groups even have special interest groups (SIGS) to help you figure out what your interests -are-, and then what to do about them.

I know that locally there is a Nice for Newbies event where a series of workshops is run during the day covering a range of basic play and safety skills ... then in the evening a newbies only play party is run with all the instructors from the workshops DMing and on hand to offer guidance and advice if needed.

This is in the back water of Yorkshire so I am sure that similar events, though perhaps requiring some travel, are available to you .. in fact I think Nice for Newbies is modelled on a similar event in California

Here's a good starting point: http://www.lairdesade.com/home.htm

They have an 'Insight' (demo) scheduled for this Saturday. It's a good way to see the club, take a tour, meet people; no play allowed.

You can also meet many people who can point you in the right direction regarding munches and other events. It is our favorite club in LA run by great people.

thanks Merc. i looked into the club and it looks really cool, unfortunately the web site specified 21+ so I'd have to wait a few more months -_-;

ahh,

Under 21 you'll have to wait another week, their parties are the 2nd and 4th Saturday's, and go 'Club DV8' at 'Passive Arts' near LAX. A much younger crowd, music, and 18 is the entry age. http://passivearts.com/events.php

It is a 'pro' club during the week; open for parties on the weekends. Again - no pressure to play. In fact there are more non-players than players. A lot of costuming and the S&M is mostly 'Stand & Model'; but again you can meet some people and dip your toe into the pool.
