Thadius -> For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/15/2008 2:38:13 PM)

A must see event will be occurring tomorrow night (Sat 16) at 8pm eastern.

John McCain and Barack Obama on stage for the first time in a live forum moderated by Pastor Rick Warren.  Hosted on CNN.

It should be very interesting, and a good comparison of the candidates.

I cancelled my TV service.  I still get 3 channels.

kittinSol -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/15/2008 2:44:05 PM)

Yes, but will they be wearing tutus ?

sub4hire -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/15/2008 3:51:31 PM)

That should be good to see.  Didn't know it was going to be on.  Last I knew Obama was still afraid to face him at a town hall.  Though..maybe this isn't a town hall?

Anyway..I'll have to watch..thanks for the info.

Just did some more research on it, it's not going to be a townhall meeting or debate.  Obama will be on first, and asked questions with McCain in sequester, and then they will switch places... Not sure if there is going to be any chances for them to ask questions of each other.

Never the less it should be some decent insight into the both of them.  At least for starters.

I don't think "afraid" is the right word.  "Unwilling to let McCain set all the conditions" might be more appropriate.

Oh, and I wonder if Warren will be a fair moderator - to McCain.  Obviously, I'm an Obama supporter, but Warren has already said that he couldn't vote for an adulterer, so that eliminates McCain.   I wonder if we'll see any questions about that.

bipolarber -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/15/2008 5:39:55 PM)

Great. So we'll see which one of them is willing to suck up to religious nutcases more...

Vendaval -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/15/2008 8:45:17 PM)

Thanks for the head's up, Thadius.  I will have to watch it on the Net, have a Devils and Angels party to attend.

It's an interesting format.  To keep it fair, I guess whoever goes on second would have to be isolated from the comments of the first.  I'll watch.

I`d bet money that there`s a webcast.

I think Obama will excede expectations and not pander.

I`m looking forward to it.

A politician not pander?  Is that even possible?

The response of each if he had any nads at all, "My personal religious convivtions are just that, personal."" If elected I will administer the office of the President by the rules set forth by the constitution of the United States Of America."

No. It's a show-down of religious beliefs. I'm sick it's even happening.

I still cling to the concept of the U.S. as free from that, despite the Herculean efforts to consolidate the U.S. as a theocracy in direct repudiation of the Constitution.

I don't give a damn what they believe happens to people when their bodies rot in the grave. I'm far more interested in their positions on the economy, health care, Iraq and Afghanistan, Social Security, energy, social justice, and so forth.

If they can help address those points intelligently, I don't care whose God waves the wand.

Best,

Tim

Thadius -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/16/2008 3:00:43 PM)

For me it is a must see, because it is the first time both candidates will be questioned by the same moderator during the same event.  It will be an interesting contrast.

I could care less if they are both atheists, and I do agree with you about wanting to learn more about the issues you mentioned.  Perhaps, they will be touched on.

As always,
Thadius

TheHeretic -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/16/2008 3:02:47 PM)

I'll take whatever insight I can get into who these men are, and how they will cope with the stresses and temptations of great power.  I suspect Obama will come off well, but I'll be asking myself if he's ever really been tested in the values he claims.

Sanity -> RE: For those interested in Obama or McCain... (8/16/2008 3:48:58 PM)

I won't be able to make it - the Seahawks are playing then.

Guess I'll just have to tune into Rush Limbaugh on Monday to find out who won...

Yeah.  The prospect of another thrilling 8-8 season...

DVR is a wonderful thing.  I'll watch when I'm in the right sort of mood.

Where have you been? Seahawks have been doing better than average for years now. Ooh! They just sacked Grosman!

Their defense seems okay this season, I just hope they have the right combination to run the ball finally. If they can do that they'll have the potential to really kick some ass
