Multiple selections are on.  I'm curious not just who you believe won the debate, but on what merits.  Even though I think McCain had better answers, and displayed a greater grasp of international affairs and policy.  I'm giving this one to Obama.

Format is how well they adapted to the specific rules and circumstances.  (My opinion; McC blew it on this, by falling back way to often to, "my friends," and bits obviously lifted whole from the stump speeches)

Presentation is the impression the viewer gets with the sound turned off.

Content is what they actually say

I enjoyed the format alot.  I liked how it prevented either or from knowing what the other answered.

I had a different take on the answers, or actually what was missing from them.  It was rather obvious that Obama tried to speak quite a bit about his personal faith and beliefs, and in doing so avoided his old church and pastor like the plague, not even mentioning the great mission work that Trinity does.  However, I think this should once and for all put away all of the crazy rumors about Obama's faith.

There were some very stark differences that came out in the discussion.

For example the very first question, about who the 3 wisest people they would listen to for making policy and presidential decisions?
Obama named his wife, grandmother, and Senators Kennedy and Nunn.
McCain named Petreaus, John Lewis, and Meg Whitman.

I found Obama's answer about an example of when he reached across the aisle to be a strange choice,  he chose legislation that he and McCain worked on, and that he later voted against to go with the party line.  Most folks probably only picked up on the fact that he mentioned McCain.

I will leave the "above my paygrade" remark alone, as others can make their own decision on whether it was an answer to the question or not.

Overall, I enjoyed the entire evening, and wish that there were a couple of townhalls scheduled.  The debates are going to be very interesting to watch, especially if the candidates are allowed to interact with each other.

I just read about Obama's "pay grade" non-answer in an article linked to in the Drudge Report.

Well then credit for McCain for making his principles clear and credit for Obama for admitting he isn't best placed to answer that question alone and demonstrating a willingness to take advice from experts on the subject.

Yeah, that one puzzled me a bit.  How hard would it have been for him to say "at birth"?

I have a question... Which category does confront fall into: ignoring, negotiating, containing, or defeating?

       Negotiating.  He blew that answer.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy some of the answers that Obama gave.  It just confused me as to why he answered some questions the way he did.

      Negotiating.  He blew that answer.

For some that would be the right answer. These questions need more context because the viewer is currently free to fill in the blanks in terms of what is being confronted.

If you want context... here ya go.. the transcripts of the entire event.  http://www.rickwarrennews.com/transcript/

Although I think it was much more telling being able to watch their faces and hear the tones of their voices...

The vote isn't going to reflect anything, even if Obama or McCain comes out on top... I would venture some will vote for either or simply based on the name, without having watched the event.
