GREAT TOPIC! Well alot of GREAT people once lived in Chicago. I grew up there 25 years. Over a weekend I would burn a tank of gas- going downtown. We had great times on the lake- both boating, and spontanious dance parties right on the lake shore! [near Belmont rocks] I had a wonderful childhood. Note that during that time period it was popular to blame to parent for every shortcoming ever. I went to the bext parties - college in Chicago. It was the best of times - and the worst. It all caught up with me. So I moved to Sunbury PA- the town where I was born. I should have done it 2 years sooner. When I first moved to Pennsylvania- anything I wanted to do,mom said "cant", which to a Chicagoan when someone says "you cant do that" the reply is "watch me" followed by actually do it- or trying to. So I started calling this "cant-sylvania". Then I had to go thru debriefing. Verbalness here is viewed as rude- city slickers are viewed with suspicion. If one did not go to high school here- one will never ever break in the the inner circle. But then I toned down my attitude. From there things flowed nicely. I dont have to look over my shoulder every minute. People do treat others better because you WILL bump into eachother later [even 10 years later] .also likely you know a cousin, and kin of the person. Pennsylvania has hardwood trees- impressive. It is a pretty state. I found state governance is rather good in PA, tho I only lived in Il. So a visitor here- my garden, the river is accross the street, the boat launch, the marina, the cazabo, the overlook, are some of my favorites. Chief Skickellamy, was a famous indian chief. Was was here thru out- then when he took power 6 nations lived in peace. The French Indian war was here- one can walk to fort augusta Anyhow my town could be any number of towns. I am partial to PA. The comment about Californians. I hear you. The pocanos and Willamsport has what we politely call "influx". Even Bucknell kids nearby think thing work like they do in Jersey but they DONT. Pennsylvania was once a powerhouse state. With steel, coal, lumber, farms, factories. Today it is very grey in population. They folks live to be old here. I have come to endear "old school" where people treat people and property with respect and admiration. Ironically PA has lost much of its young adults to the sun belt.... they leave and stay gone. From here Ild love to move to what is called the Pennsylvania wilds. We have parks that have alot of beauty. A mini grand canyon, the northern tier [north of i80] is high elevations and sparcely populated... I wish I could live there. It snows alot there. The people are more laid back there as this valley is becoming a suburb with out a city and that is cheaponing the area.
