Oh buddy, you don't know how &#*****'n annoying it is to hear that. What country do you think Hawai`i is part of anyhow? It's been a state for almost 50 years! I hear this all the time at work from mainland tourists..."will this go back to my doctor in the states?" If it weren't for expectations from my employer, I'd be asking them what f*cking country they think they're in.

Actually, I know exactly how annoying it is to hear that. It's roughly as annoying as living in Hawaii for 3 and a half years and hearing nothing but "the evil US took over our homeland" and "end the illegal US occupation" and "go home hoale."

You see, when I first got to Hawaii, I though "Wow...paradise, finally. This makes taht year I spent on that speck called guam so worth it. I must have lucked out to get this assignment."

Roughly a month later, that began to change. The culmination of this was when I stopped at a 7/11...... a SEVEN ELEVEN......a NATIONAL chain and was told "we don't have a bathroom you can use." Bullshit! There is nowhere else I have ever been in this country where SEVEN ELEVEN.....a NATIONAL chain....had no bathroom. Yet because I was white, I wasn't allowed to use it.

So yes, I call the states, the states and I call Hawaii, Hawaii. When I get corrected, or when someone, as you put it, asked me what counry I thought I was in....my reply was always "well, I thought originally I was in the US, but my experience here has shown me differently. You want to be the 'US?' Then ACT LIKE IT.

Part of my job while there was to scour the local papers for news about my service/base. There wasn't a DAY that went by I didn't read some letter to the editor talking about the evil US and how we should go home and give Hawaii back to its people.

Let me end my thread-jack reply with this:
King Kamehameha is CELEBRATED for "uniting" the islands; despite the fact that one of the great battles of his "unification" was pushing the opposing army off the Pali Lookout to their deaths.

The US made a DEAL with the Princess to make Hawaii a state, killed NO ONE, and yet we're the big, bad, evil US.

My time in Hawaii is largely responsible for my disillusionment with all the "America haters." That's where I learned that the US will be damned if we do and damned if we don't and the ones who hate us will hate us.

I left Hawaii thinking to myself "Yes, we should give Hawaii back. We should leave those islands. And with us, we should take every highway, every street sign, every single remnant on that island paid for by US tax dollars. Let 'em go back to canoes and coconuts and be vulnerable to whichever country wants to take them over next."

So yes, I know how annoying it is to hear "back in the states." It's roughly as annoying as it was for me listening to the "locals" while I was there.

Hawaii is over rated.  Who wants to be land locked?  besides the parties are better in LA.....   LOL- what I mean as serious partiers go back to the mainland where one can get partied.... cheaply.   not several times the cost per hawaii.

PS 7-11s are jerks all over.

After my dealing with vw in Hawaii, I will never be jerked around again. I'm already thinking about my next car and what I can do between now and then that will assure my payments aren't over $250 for every little extra I want on it.

Just an FYI Smith, I've never made it to Hawaii but having visited SevenEleven's across the mainland I've ran into a few with no public restroom.   I chalked it up to the individual areas, most of which were not in the more favorable parts of the towns.

There are some places with no public restrooms, but it's posted. I have never been told I couldn't go to the bathroom in a 7/11.

The real hatred for Hawaii came after I realized that my car was $10K cheaper in the states than it was in hawaii. The destination charge wasn't any higher there than anywhere else, but the mark up was still horrendous. Had I known then what I know now. . . .

the public is extremely sloppy when it comes to toilets.  destructive too.  the Ohio turn pike is a good example.  one is paying for "service" via the tolls.  and yet the restrooms are a madhouse....  the expand and expand.

I remember when I was stationed in Hawaii (1983-1986) there were car dealerships in San Diego and San Francisco offering "Car Buying Vacations".

Cut rate plane fair to the city via airline partnership. Go spend a couple of weeks on the mainland and buy a car for book or a bit below then spend $350.00 for freight shipping to the islands.  Shipping time was 30-45 days.

Even with air fare and hotel bills it was about $2000 cheaper than buying on the island and you got a vacation out of the deal and sometimes free show tickets from the dealership. <grin>

BTW... public restrooms vary by state and local ordinance.  Some places you CAN find a public rest room in the 7-11 as local health laws require public restrooms in any place selling ready to eat food.

Damn, I wish those vacations were available when I was car shopping. That would have been nice.

The contract says that "there is no cooling off period" and they checked the box on the bottom that says "Issued with No Recourse."
So, looks like I'm stuck with this great contract that they fucked themselves on!
I signed the contract and by the time I got home there were 3 messages on the phone for me from the dealorship! lol
The same thing today.
Man! They fucked up bigtime but, a contract is a contract!
If *I* wanted to change it I have, "No Recourse."
Someone wasn't paying attention!

It may well be that the dealer got themselves into a contract that they don't like but don't think for a minute that they have no recourse. They can simply choose to ignore the contract, not sell you the car, and wait for you to sue them for breach of contract. My guess is that they have an attorney on retainer to protect them from this sort of thing while you will have to pay yours out of pocket. Not such a great deal for either side so expect them to continue to try and negotiate with you.

If you insist on standing your ground based on your reading of the contract it’s possible that you'll never see that vehicle in your driveway.

On the other hand. They might cave. Good luck.

Taboo, that Caddy is in my driveway now.
I drove it away friday!
And, the contract gives *me* "no recourse", *I* have to abide by the terms and conditions once I sign my name "with no recourse."
Those contracts "lock-in" the buyer.
Once you sign, you own it!

LOL, I just got a message from the college kid who went to the U. of Tennessee.
He said that they'll give me "free financing" if I'll sign a "new contract."
Oh suuuuuure!

The dealorship wants to "re-negotiate" a signed contract that *they* messed up on.
Would I get that chance?
I daresay Noooooooo!

I'd still get a lawyer's advice if I were you.

He doesnt need a lawyer.

Wait till a certified letter comes.

the contract sounds unilateral which in itself can be a mess.
besides after he breaks it in reaaaaaaaaaal good-  they wont want it back.

Maybe. I'm just a bit more paranoid. I'd want to be able to answer my phone with the words "Well, my lawyer says everything is good, and I'm quite happy with the contract. Thank you though."

He can still say that.   They dont know...for all they know his brother is a "free" lawyer.    or brother in law.

lawyers are fine- but they do tend to eat up the cash.  they will "help"  but the cost might cancel out the deal he has on the car.

possession is 9/10 of the law and a car dealer is in business to sell cars. so if they made a bad deal- thats how it goes.  Popeye did nothing wrong.  they ought to thank him. it IS a "recession",  burp.

for all the screwer types in the world, I am glad a guy like Popeye got the big end of the stick.  :-)

Ditto. It's about time a dealer got a nice jolly-rogering.

The only things I know about buying cars is that a dealer/salesman has much more price negotiation room on a used car and purchasing an extended warranty is a bad move, especially if you are borrowing money to do it (adding it to your car loan).
