Well if this something to think about. Bush as a President has only averaged an approval rating of about 30%. The only way this looks good is that Congress, both Houses have averaged an approval rating of about 15%. I would imagine the Supreme Court does about the same in approval rating as the other two branches of the government. With that in mind is it about time the Citizens of the US look a little further at The Declaration of Independence?

The first time around the colonists were fighting an enemy from thousands of miles away with similar weaponry. Today no such action would succeed as long as the military is with the government.

Although I don't agree with a bunch of it, The Turner Diaries has some good ideas on how to accomplish something, but so many things have to fall into place for something like that to work.

The government is aware of these documents, and thus has been systematically taking away the People's means to alter or abolish it. Thirty percent approval at best ? I really do think that if seventy percent of the People rebelled they would have no problem killing them off. Look what happened in the south after the civil war, the rebels were purposely punished.

Another big problem is that so many people depend on the government. They may hate it but they need it. This includes a hell of alot of people.

One day the government may screw enough people that a peaceful redress of grievances might be possible, but again, many things would have to fall into place for anything like that to succeed.

I have thought these things out in depth and I try not to be pessimistic, but we must be realistic.

nope.

the ebb and flow and essense of day to day- is that most people via tacit approval are just fine with governance.

1. voter turn out.
2. protests
3. strikes
4. letters to congress

so- based on the lethargithy of people. 30% isnt 30%. In real terms, it is 80%

thus renders the OP argument as VOID. (sorry)

in other words people are not "hungry" enough, yet.

Jefferson was a strong proponent of the 2nd amendment so the people would be, in terms of weapons, on an equal footing with the government. He also advocated for an overthrow of the government about every other generation or so. Neither has occurred or been maintained.

It is my belief that if more people had a clearer picture of the things that are happening, and the deeper ramifications of such, there would be rebellion. But alas, most are too busy just trying to keep up and have not enough time to research and learn.

We don't need a rebellion in any case as it seems likely our economic system is poised for massive collapse.

If you want to try and make a statement without starting a war, try to turn over your reps in congress and the senate, especially those that are sitting on what you think should be accomplished. that kind of a shake up will make the reps more attentive to their constituents want. It will take some research to decide if your reps are actually representing you, but voting out those in office will wake people up, and get their attention. the follow up is to let your reps know what you want to have happen, by mail, by phone, by email and however you can be heard.

People should always be mindful of these words.

We need not have armed revolution to bring government properly to heel. We merely need a full ballot box. We need only have an electorate who refuses to blithely accept Heinlein's aphorism that in a mature society "civil servant" is semantically equal to "civil master."

We need the people in this country to read and remember the words of the Declaration, and to read and remember the Preamble to the Consitution:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Our government exists at our pleasure. We do not exist at the government's pleasure. THAT is how our government is supposed to function--and how it will function if people step into the voting booth in November.

Don't like what government is doing? Vote them out. That is your right, and if you believe those in government have behaved badly, it is your duty to vote them out of office.

I wonder how much of the negative aproval of the legislative branch is due to them not doing what their new members were elected for in 2004 in the first place: stopping the war, and ITMFA?
