7.)  A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.

When examined by an audio-expert, it was found that the echo was "swallowed" by the original quack, due to the very similar acoustic structure between the quack and the echo. Because of this, it may be difficult to tell where the quack ends and the echo begins. Normally, a sound and its own echo have very different waveforms on an oscilloscope. As it turns out, a duck's quack and its echo have a very similar waveform. Oscilloscope analysis of a duck's quack/echo could lead someone to not "see" the echo waveform on the display, only the source waveform. In the same way, human hearing may not perceive the difference between a duck's quack and its echo due to the similarities.

Thank Y/you darchChylde! Apparently whoever made the list isn't a Mythbusters fan! Also, I'm pretty sure the size of the eyeball does change. I doubt newborns and adults have the same size eyes! Ears, although they change in size, stay proportionate throughout life, almost like a fingerprint!

woo hoo! I didn't try to lick my elbow! I thought about it though :)

Extrarrestial is specifically defined as any object or person that has had contact with an extraterrestrial object.  That is, any astronaut that lands on the moon counts as an extraterrestrial, and so do their vehicles.

I won't deal with the duck quak, it has already be debunked above.

Again, Mythbusters proved the eye thing wrong, which makes me doubt the rib or blood vessel thing as well.

15.)  More than 50% of the people in the world have never made or received a telephone call.

Twenty years ago this was true.  I bet Japans effort to sell cellphones throught Asia, filling India and China with cell towers means this statistic is no longer true.

quote:

21.)  Ninety percent of New York City cabbies are recently arrived immigrants.
I bet this one requires a very liberal defintion of the word "recent".   Contrary to popular belief, you need to have an american license, which takes time to get.  NYC is not conductive to getting a license, as it is not easy to learn to drive here.   More importantly there are FAR more jobs that are easier to get, require no license, require no fluency in English, require no skill in a fairly small distance around NYC.

quote:

22.)  Thirty-five percent of the people who use personal ads for dating are already married.

Again, #22 sounds like a very out-dated stat.  Probably true before the emergence of eharmony and match.com, but I doubt it's so anymore.

quote:

23.)  Elephants are the only animals that can't jump.

Define jump.  Then think about snakes.

quote:

28.)  The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building.

Another myth busted - this time by snopes.

quote:

38.)   If Barbie were life-size, her measurements would be 39-23-33. She would stand 7 feet, 2 inches tall.

# 38 is blatantly stupid.  Life sized means you make her whatever size you want.  You can either use an average height and get her bust/waist/hips measurement or you can set her height to be something stupid and get wierd bust/height/hips.

quote:

40.)  The cigarette lighter was invented before the match.

Outright false.  LIghter came in 1823, first match sold in 16th century.  The matches that are strike anywhere were invented in 1805.

There's nothing that rhymes with orange, either.
Cats get a really funny look when you hit them with a shovel.

Wow! They really do!
Neat thing is that you can use the shovel later to get rid of the evidence.....

That's the first thing i thought of when the one about month was mentioned.  I remember the old "nothing rhymes with orange" line since i was a kid, and i always thought "there's another word in Crayola's box of 8 basic crayons that got no credit for the same distinction... purple."  And no, not being an actual word in the english language; "nurple doesn't count".

Take into consideration the infants and small children, poor, Amish, Bushmen/ other religious or lifestyle choices that would prevent a person from doing that

And snakes *can* jump. They coil up and spring into the air.

Not only can horses not vomit, they also can't burb. Thus making the song "Beer For My Horses" wrong. In actuality, a horse with colic should be given a fifth of whiskey and a gallon of corn oil and then walked around until they start pooping. Although they will drink soda, it shouldn't be given to them.
