I suppose some might want to grab the opportunity to trash the VA, and Bush by extension, but dammit, this is cool.  This custom shop won't be sending out a show car this year, but one badly injured vet has a nice new ride.

Another way that folks can get more involved is through the old adopt a sniper program, please visit the website, and see if there is a something you can donate to help supply American snipers with things they need.

Also please visit some of the other great charities that have popped up that are doing great work for these heroes that are still in country or back home.

Thanks for your time and checking them out.

That is an excellent program as well V.

I am actually looking at a certain custom motorcycle that is up for auction, with all proceeds going to these charities.  Too bad, I know I can't afford to bid what it is going to take to win it.

Vendaval -> RE: Supporting the Troops: A Fine Example (8/22/2008 11:21:41 AM)

Oohhh...what kind of motorcycle?

Thadius -> RE: Supporting the Troops: A Fine Example (8/22/2008 11:30:12 AM)

It's a custom American Ironhorse.

quote:

The motorcycle is a 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper, and comes complete with a 6 speed tranmission, polished 111 cubic inch S&S motor, and generates 110 horsepower and 115 ft lbs. of torque. It is painted with a black gloss that includes the Doobie Brothers Logo, Doobie Brothers band member signatures on the gas tank and comes complete with a full chrome package. The bike also comes with a full 2 year factory warranty and a portion can be financed for up to 96 months.

Tim Mcelheney, General Manager of San Diego IronHorse said, “This is a very unique opportunity for the lucky bidder to own one of the great bikes being produced today and a true one of a kind. And San Diego IronHorse couldn’t be more excited to see the proceeds from the sale of this incredible machine going to support a great organization like the NVF.”

quote:

“This is an incredible motorcycle, produced via collaboration between true American patriots,” noted NVF President Shad Meshad. ”Most importantly, this one-of-a kind bike will provide crucial resources to support a one of a kind service--the nation’s only live toll-free crisis management information, and referral helpline for veterans and their families---at a time when it is needed the most by those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The Doobie Brothers Custom Chopper is currently on display at SDI’s Dealer Showroom, 5155 Convoy St San Diego CA 92111--Phone: 858-576-6400. On August 28th, San Diego Iron Horse will also be hosting a special showroom reception with the Doobie Brothers Band at 6 p.m. The event will include food, auction, photos with band members, and the opportunity for attendees to make bids on the bike. Also, the “Doobie Brothers Custom Bike” will be on display at the Doobie Brothers show at Humphrey’s By The Bay in San Deigo on August 29th.
