A few times in the past i was asked about the electromagnets i use on my bondage frame to attach someone with. And i decided to toss together a wiring diagram and parts list for them for others who are interested.

Some might ask why not just use regular locks. Well they can serve 2 purposes. I have a Domme friend that comes over on occasion and she loves the idea of just clicking the key chain remote control to release me. , so when not playing she doesn't have to get up to release me to get her a drink or something. I guess you could say laziness is a virtue

With a timer they can also be used for self bondage. Which was recently asked of me a few times on "how to" , so i tossed this together. The magnetic locks i used on the bondage frame are on my main web page, but the diagram and info is located here

Amazing !  You need to post that over on Makzine's user section, they would love it

An outstanding post!

I'm already thinking about tying this in to my home automation server.
The question is, do I want to have it on a timer, an absolute timer (date and time), an e-mail trigger, or just wait until something passes one of the motion sensors before releasing a sub?

I'm thinking about linking in an IP camera and VOIP so that I could go out for a short while with someone tied up and monitor it over the internet.  The thing is, it would mean leaving them with a remote for safety's sake, but the ideas are flowing thick and fast.

Thanks a million IrishM57

i use 2 timers, one on the power side of tghe power supply, and a low voltage one between the powersupply and the magnets.
the low voltage one resets another half hour on a visit to the web page or can be reset and start over via the cell. or any web site with the password

I like the hogtie idea, but what prevents you from squirming far enough to pull the plug out of the wall? That's always my issue with gear based on line voltage... Nonetheless, I finally bought an electromagnet that claims to have 600lbs holding power (only 250 mA at 12V! Amazing!)... sadly, it doesn't have the cup-shaped housing you've got on the round one to prevent a sliding escape, so i'm gonna have to improvise. Still, lots of possibility... if only i can get time to work on it

Well i dont use any line voltage toys , but the 12 volt power supply is mounted up on a shelf  far from reach. so basically one would have to rip the wiring out. which at 60 bucks a magnet is expensive.

If you have round magnets like mine. Mine didn't come with the cup housing. I took PVC pipe, cut 2 and a half inch long  pieces and glued them to the magnets to prevent the plate from being able to be slid off the magnets surface

Cool. So you're running it off a 12V battery, then? What sort of AH rating are you using? The magnet I got is only 250mA, so I guess it doesn't take much.  Got a spare 10AH bike battery that doesn't fit anything (dumbass), so I might give it a try if I can find a 12v timer.

Got a chance to try it out tonight, but something failed... thought I had 20 minutes left on the timer, but no juice to the battery. Better luck next month I'll try posting pictures of my rig when I get a chance, I think it's pretty spiff (meaning, of course, would be if it worked )

Sounds like a winner with some interesting other uses such as stocks or some form of whipping bench where the restraints are magnetically secured. Something might be devised using an electromagnetic strike plate common on many door entry systems, be aware there are to types 'fail safe' and 'fail secure'. The one you want is the 'fail safe' type, when the power goes off the lock releases.

For those of you not  up to speed on electronics, computer interfacing or not entirely comfortable using mains power don't worry as a small battery and a clockwork kitchen timer will work just as well. I would suggest though using a sealed lead acid battery, a type commonly used in alarm systems as they cannot leak acid even when upside down

Here is something for the home builders and professionals to muse over .. InfraRed keyring activated deadbolts.

Of course if you want to go high tech you can control solenoid locks using and old cell phone, it's a fairly simple hack.

My intention has long been to develop a system utilising a USB i/o board - thus allowing the computer to not only control devices by relay, but also receive feedback from sensors.

Obviously with a bit of programming, this always sets my mind being creative..... Vibration sensors and microswitches on the inputs, wibbly devices and magnets on the output devices.... A simple VB app could be enough to cause considerable surprise/discomfort.

I am liking the magnets, so thank you for that! I will see what I can find, and I can expect to blow up another relay board before the end of the week..

I use a serial relay board i bought from carl's kits for that. it has 8 relay out puts, and 4 inputs. At the time i bought it, the usb board was still over 200 bucks. But it has come down. And i did the software myself. reading and writitng from a serial port is very easy.

Oh terrific! You have made something like this already?

Was it designed for bdsm purposes, or something else?

And in either case.... what did it do?

I got mine from a local machine shop. I went in and told them i wanted 4 (qty) of 1.5 inch diameter steel discs , 3/8 inch think . 1.5 inch round stock is a very common size for industrial use. I drilled and tapped the 1/4 20 hole myself since he wanted 5 bucks more per piece. In all the 4 pieces cost me 16 dollars

well i got hit bad from the ice storm, just got power back after 5 days with none.
