Ive noticed in heated arguements that the vocabulary tends to turn smaller with lots of four letter words. Not larger.

Here is one I just used a few minutes ago "stupid twat".  Unfortunately I couldn't actually say it TO the person.

edited to add.....It really wasn't an argument either. Moreso a discussion about a sqabble.

It could be any number of reasons, Colour.  Anything from a desperate attempt to baffle with bullshit, to calling someone else on bullshit.

Spot on, Rich.

I usually see it as a sign that a poster has mentally shifted gears, is sitting a little straighter at the keys, and giving more thought and attention to the case they are making.  The banter has become less casual.

Much depends on my mood and who is also posting in a thread as to whether or not my responses are loose and unstructured or more erudite and educated.

Sometimes it means good reading ahead, sometimes it means every post for the next four pages will be between two or three people, and heading down some bizarre tangent of US supplies to the Red Army in 1942-43.

Hoolies Bascha!  Some of the obscure tangents that start up, in this section in particular. Just shoot me, OK!?

Using 'colourful ' language or expletives with reference to another poster to me is much like losing one's temper and losing any sense of reason. The sort of behaviour that in a face to face discussion if one has to raise their voice, swear and denigrate the other participant, to me that is an indication that they have lost the discussion and is only one step short of attempting to get a point across with violence.

A forum, denigration and abuse is verbal violence, an indication the perpetrator has lost the argument, if not the plot.

I am currently available for work, I'm a fast, usually accurate typist (70wpm); and I've had experience typing long-winded boring transcripts in a multitude of languages. I can deal with your twang.

Jeffff: I'm all yours  .
