I just hope one of the biggest organizers doesn't get what they are asking for via their namesake Recreate '68, in that I hope it remains peaceful.

I'm reminded of something that was said of those times.  "A movement that isn't willing to risk injuries, even deaths, isn't worth shit."  Jerry Rubin

Citation, please.

Rubin and Hoffman couldn't conspire on what kind of pizza to order....

Recreate 68, eh? Someone really wants a police riot?

One would think with that screen name you would now better.

Recreate 68 is not about recreating the 1968 Democrat National Convention, it is about recreating the YEAR in spirit,
passions, aims and goals of progressive peoples in 1968.

Didn't the democrats lose to nixon in 1968?

FatDomDaddy -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 12:34:09 PM)

I think that is part of their point.

One less thing to protest against:

quote:

DENVER - Democratic delegates from Michigan and Florida were awarded full voting rights at the national convention Sunday, despite holding early primaries against party rules.

One group is protesting...

Sunday - End All Occupations at Home and Abroad
Monday - Human Rights/Free All Political Prisoners
Tuesday - No Racism/Imperialism
Wednesday - No Warming
Thursday - No Borders

(my italics)

...who'd have thought the anti hot water brigade were so well organised.......

I sure hope you're wrong about Ward Churchill speaking.  He has no credibility with anyone and the last thing the Dems need is his "little Eichmanns" tag line being draped around their necks.

BTW, I live in south Denver and don't expect to venture downtown this coming week.

So let me get this straight, they are adding all of the delegates from FL and MI, and the only reason they aren't worried about it is because a few superdelegates from those states are leaning towards Obama?  Let me see if I further understand that Hillary's name is going to be in the mix during the roll call vote, and she and her husband are giving speeches over 2 nights prior to any voting.  What kind of insanity is this?  I mean what happens if for some crazy reason the roll call gets swung into a Hillary win, are they still going to use a parlimentary move to make that vote not count and proclaim Obama the winner?

Well that is my short thoughts on what I would be protesting... stop the parlimentary parlor games.

He spoke at one of the protests today, and will be speaking again tomorrow.  I don't think he has any spot as part of the convention proper.  I could be wrong.

Since when is credibility a prerequisite for standing outside next to Fred Phelps, Cindy Sheehan,  and the black bloc?

Vendaval -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 4:48:14 PM)

Protests can be very invigorating.  I have been in a few throughout the years but nothing on such a grand scale.

Thadius -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 4:58:48 PM)

Mother nature is protesting, she has sent a pretty frigun big tornado into Colorado... Wow that footage was awe inspiring.

Vendaval -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 5:00:54 PM)

Heh...I will stick with the earthquakes, floods, fires and riots out here.

Owner59 -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 5:09:35 PM)

This is wierd.

When I saw the OP, I thought it would be republicans and the like, protesting.

Isn`t a protest something that`s against something else?

Anyway.

Wtf is going to "protest" at the GOP convention?

Republicans?

lol

Thadius -> RE: The protests have begun. (8/24/2008 5:16:00 PM)

Uhm, yeah a protest is.

I am actually celebrating the rights of folks to protest, and encouraging it.  Hoping that it is done safely and peacefully.
Is there something wrong with that?

I would like to file a formal protest about you not being sensitive enough to my rights to sympathize and support those that are protesting some of my very own positions.

Fair point, and Rubin died after being run over crossing the street in Los Angeles.
