pompeii -> How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (8/24/2008 1:48:26 PM)

I picked up a soft black smaller sized ball gag after a larger sized ball gag I made myself was just too big for most subs. The problem with this leather and rubber ball gag is that the rubber is soft (it seems to be "melting" slightly) and it tastes bad according to the subs who tried it. It has a plastic taste. After soaking it for a few hours in cold water, I put it in my mouth for a second myself, and before yanking it out in revulsion, I also tasted the rubbery taste.

Is this normal for a ball gag to taste bad even after soaking?
Is it normal for the ball gag to get 'soft' even when fairly new (few weeks old)?
And, is there a decent way to get rid of the taste?

I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem with one of my Master's ball gags. The taste actually burns my mouth so I can only wear it for a short period of time. We have others, but this one fits my mouth the best. Be careful of "softness". I had a one that was too soft and my teeth ground into until I was choking on rubber pieces. My play partner at the time had no idea and thought I was reacting to the beating. Luckily, he was attentive and figured it out pretty quickly.

I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has a solution, but my best advice is to trash it.

I'm not  sure that you can fix this taste issue. The getting "soft " factor makes me think like TX, just trash it. I read something on here about bad tasting rubber lately. I couldn't find the thread though. Try searching the posts on ball gags in the general bdsm or ask a sub sections.

Thanks for posting this question OP! I also have a BG that could use some help... i have learned to just deal with it, the taste goes away eventuially......

Why exactly is it that a ball gag can't be used for pleasure?  Honey... you are missing out.  Imagine, for a brief instant, that you are gagged gentley, bound, and instead of being hurt- someone teases you and torments you and does lovely things to you.... Bondage is good, and it doesn't have to be about submission.

As for the rubbery taste- if the rubber is degrading, throw it away.  That's the "melting" issue, where the rubber solution was prepared properly, or the gag has been stored in the heat.  But if the gag is intact, one thing you might do is refrigerate it in lemon water (one teaspoon lemon juice to one pint/liter of water) for 4 hours or more and see if that makes it easier to take.

Put it in your pussy first!

Oh, wait....

I've wrapped some bondage tape over the ball part to cover the rubber.  Just make sure it's securely wrapped for safety.

the solution is to shell out a few more bucks for silicone.

I believe I have that same ballgag, and yes, it did have a foul chemical-like taste from the moment it was purchased about 3 years ago. Cleaning it didn't help, so I think it is just in the composition, which actually isn't rubber. It's not going to go away, and in fact, the one I have has started to get a sticky feel to it, probably due to the material breaking down. I no longer use it, and should just throw it away.

DChammer -> RE: How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (9/2/2008 6:35:28 PM)

I had some leather ball gags from Pakistan, that when I put them in the mouth, I about passed out from the residual chemicals used to treat and dye the leatehr.  Chromium and cyanide comes to mind

Anyway, in reply to the original poster, toss it!  Rubber does not melt under normal temperatures, and it gets harder with age.  It is not pure rubber and probably is something else entirely.  Rubber tastes like rubber and will taste like rubber 30 years down the road, just with more cracks.

allaboutmanners -> RE: How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (9/2/2008 10:35:29 PM)

Soak it in Pepsi for about 3 to 4 hours. It will get rid of the taste. The melting part? Thats a first for me

LexAeterna -> RE: How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (9/2/2008 10:51:04 PM)

I won't explain the chemistry behind this, but you can try this...It works for other PETA plastics, and such...

Find a way to soak in 2/3 vinegar (clear white vinegar works nice) and 1/3 water; let set for 24 hours. Rinse with clean water. Should remove the rubber/plastic taste, no vinegar smell, as odor free.

I've never got the chance to wear a ball gag =(
I'd actually like the idea of having to put up with the taste!

Why am I picturing a commercial with a 40 yearold house wife and in the first scene she is wearing a blue gag and in the second scene a red one and then in the end she picks one and Look she picked the Coke over the Pepsi.

exotique -> RE: How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (9/8/2008 12:10:33 AM)

Ok, I just can't resist the obvious solution to solve the 'flavor' problem :

First INSERT the gag into a handy nearby orifice - any orifice will do ;)

OK, on a more serious note:
There is a significant danger from many of the cheaper gags out there.  I'm referring to the black rubber.  Most "novelty" items (that is the industrial classification) utilize recycled rubber.  The dangers of the chemicals & heavy metals - which are NOT removed in the process, are very real, and very toxic.   Then there is the rubber 'black' process itself - involving coal.
Only a higher quality gag employing virgin rubber (that sounds like a pun -it's not, thats the industry nomenclature) should be considered for insertion.  (hmmm, that contemplates the whole universe of 'insertion' ... which just leads to so many punning opportunities - i'll resist the temptation :)  )

Unfortunately, silicone ones are still relatively rare - and not produced in all the interesting designs (such as head harnesses, etc.) that some of us love.

Snyegurochka -> RE: How to get rid of the rubbery taste of a new ball gag? (9/8/2008 3:35:15 PM)

Well, I dunno if you can actually get rid of the plastic smell. We will have to test that vinegar recipe! If you try it, please update me about it!

As far as I know, that smell is because the chemicals with the toy is made and its safer avoiding those smelly toys, because your gonna insert them in tender mucosal areas [8|] but Exotique said that more nicely than I can :)
