I noticed a profile today from a somewhat aggressive slave, complaining about people putting her on their favourites list without having spoken to her.

I don't know about you, but I put people on my favourites list if there is something on their profile which catches my eye. It might mean that there is something about their interests, location, or appearance, which interests me. That doesn't mean I will necessarily want to talk to them, but does mean that I can quickly find their profile if necessary.

I do hope this is not generally frowned upon.

I don't think it's frowned upon, but I do think it is wondered at. I have folks on my admirers list that have never tried to contact me, that have stuff on *their* profiles that just doesn't match mine, etc. I figure they just want a quick way to look at my picture. Good for them!

In those rare cases that the admirers are friends, it's a fast link to be able to send them mail.

I find it very curious that someone would put me on a "favorites" list but not drop me an email. If you find someone interesting...talk to them.

Why do people get so up in arms?

Someone looked at your profile. This person put you on a list of profiles to remember.

Heaven forbid, call the firing squad.

To me this ranks below getting irritated at a mom with a child who starts to cross the road on the No Walk sign.

The only one I have ever put on my favorites list is my dom. Anyone else, well if I want to communicate with them I will. No need to add them to my favorites.

However, many within my community here have added me. They know who I am, they know I run a BDSM group and they may not remember my screen name here since it is not one I use anywhere else really.

At one time it did bother me...but after asking many why they added me...it makes sense.

I'm pretty sure I know the profile you're talking about, she sounds quite adamant that you must ask her permission before adding her to favorites.

I'm nowhere near her, so I sent her a message explaining that people use the favorites list for different reasons, but in effect it's just like bookmarking a web page. It's certainly unreasonable to expect someone to ask permission just to bookmark your profile, and she'll miss out on reasonable doms writing her because of that requirement. Maybe she just likes collecting mail from horny net guys.

Some of them even block you when you just try to send a note of "thanks" for being on their list....

*shrugs shoulders and looks bewildered*

Yes, it's one of the many "hey, whatever" thinks about the internet, IMO. But, folks get all twittery over all manner of stuff on the screen. Go figure.

Until I started opening my mouth around here, I had quite an extensive list of admirers over on the left there. But its never bothered me that most on the list never contacted me.

I have added only a few people to my favourites list. Most of them I know in (so-called) real life, but there are a couple I added because of their interesting journals, even though I know I'm in no way what they are looking for.

I'm another who uses the "Favourites" or "Hotlists" on sites as a means of book-marking someone who may have struck a chord in some way. Doesn't mean I'm considering writing to them but if my social situation changes in the future, the "favourites" would be a good place to start looking again.

I regard hotlisting someone as a compliment. And if what is basically a stranger then wrote to me complaining of my not seeking permission to list her, that in itself would be a good reason to delete her from it.

Focus.

Wow, you learn something new every day. I didnt know there was a favourites list like that. I have such a crap memory, or distrust in my pc skills, i assumed id put those names there somehow for some reason, but had forgotten doing so for some reason.
Im no gonna look to see if im admired.

And i damn well hope each and every goddamn motherfuckinggoddamnoneofyou asked nicely first lol

hey, ive just checked, and there's sorta chess pieces next to some of them, what does that mean?

I don't mind so much the adding me to their Favorites, but after a few weeks go by, without them contacting me, I write them say hello and let them know that I noticed they added me quite some time ago, and then ask them to remove me if they're uninterested in talking with me. Usually I'm met with "Sorry, I forgot I put you on there, I'll remove you now." But the infuriating part is people who add me, read my followup mail, keep me on their list, and block me...

Yeah, I get upset. Would it be SO damn hard to just say "Hey, I added you because________. Hope you didn't mind." Just be cordial, because if you insist on having me on your list, but don't ever say anything even ater the emails, you seem quite stalkerish.
