LadyHibiscus -> Flexfuel/E85 Anyone tried it? (8/24/2008 7:28:45 PM)

I have an Impala that takes the cheaper biofuel, and I was wondering if anyone has actually tried the stuff?  Does it mix with normal fuel existing in the tank?   How is the gas mileage?

I am not a fan of the stuff, just on general principal  (anyone seen the price of grain products lately?) but it is showing up at a few stations around here, and the price difference is actually worth noticing.

It is cheaper at the pump, but your mileage will drop.

in the neighborhood of 20 to 30%

You will have to do your own math. They told me there would be no math when I joined here

also  on the impala you will need you PCM (  engine 'puter) reprogramed  if you are going to use it regularly

A dealer should do that at no charge as long as you are under factory warranty

If the E85 is cheap enough to make up for the lower milage, then give it a try.  You shouldn't notice much of a difference in everyday driving.  From Chevy's website, the 2008 Impala sedan with the 3.6L V6 gets 17/25 mpg with gas and 12/19 with E85.  So, if the E85 is 25-30% cheaper than regular gas you'll about break even, but have to stop at the gas station more often.

That's about what I figured!  Normal gas for me, thanks, I get 20/30 in the thing right now, why mess with a good thing.
