The GOP of Texas has crossed the line of acceptable advertising, at least in my eyes. Their lastest ad uses Obama's half brother in an interesting attack ad, I am completely against attacking family members, especially those that haven't said a single word. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auG9qsZpL6o

After watching that ad. and seeing that his half-brother lives in Africa, I wonder if Obama even knows his half-brother? Hell, I live in America as do 2 of my half brothers and would barely recognize either one unless they are somewhere with some other part of My family. Obama has been estranged from his father<not sure if his father is still alive> for quite some time, if I remember correctly, since early childhood. Pretty inventive ad. from a political stand point but, easily dismiss able and really distasteful.

Yeah, that one was below the belt. Stupid too--Obama has the proverbial snowball's chance in Hell of winning Texas. Why bother with something this crass when Obama himself offers up so many more tempting and substantial targets?

I have no idea why they did it. It may even be a response to the ad about Cindy McCain. Either way, it was a low blow. I don't think it was even aimed at Texans, with where it is placed it is reaching much farther than their borders.

Nice to see we all agree. This type of ad, would have been despicable comming from either side of the political spectrum.

It's not attached to the campaign, so I am not sure it will have that sort of effect. It would be the same as holding Obama accountable for some of the things moveon or code pink have done, I don't think it will. Edited to add: Just like the Dem party ads of some of the southern states haven't backfired, at least not onto the candidate.

It's coming from the Texas Republican Party, so McCain can stand up and denounce it without hurting his electoral calculus. It won't change Texas at all. There will be a small flash in the pan, but unless Obama's people make an issue of it, this ad should die a quick death.

Barack is 21 year older than George so it seems unlikely there is much of a bond between the two. Barack Obama sr. died in a car crash in the early 1980's. Barack's book "Dreams from My Father" goes into some detail about his journey to Kenya to meet the half siblings and step mothers on his father's side

Seems to me he's not attacking a family member, he's attacking Obama himself for not taking care of his brother. Now I don't think Obama has any obligation to his brother, but some people will think less of him for it and I guess it's legitimate to bring this to their attention.

What would you do if it was your half Brother? Why is there this idea floating about that someone who you've never met but has some insignificant blood relationship to you needs to be helped by you? Charity begins at home yes but people are loyal to their family because they have played a significant role in their lives not just because they are blood related. I think you'd have to look at it in terms of the loyalty you'd feel to a mother that had given you up for adoption at birth.
