I watched a little bit on tv, but since I have a Sirius radio and Howard Stern is (sadly) on vacation, they have an all convention channel thats pretty interesting, and I really like the idea of listening to the convention rather than watching it.

Status: offline 		          I caught Michelle's speech last night, and (assuming I've finished ripping out the flooring and baseboards in the bathroom that flooded) I'll catch Hillary tonight.  Bill, I will pass on, but I'll certainly watch Barry's speech from the stadium on Thursday.

        A McCain ad ran during the coverage, featuring a woman named as a former Clinton delegate, whispering that it's ok to vote for him.

Michelle delivered a good speach, she did it fairly well. I didn't see it as a homerun but a solid base hit.
Long on image, short on substance, which is generally the trend with such speaches.
She did a good PR job softening her image after the comments during the primary that had her image as an angry woman fixed in the public minds of so many.
She smoothed over some of the comments like First time in her adult life she was proud of her country
and America is a downright mean place.

Those sound bites had hurt her image and as a result Obama's electability was less likely. She did a reasonable job of meeting the goals of the speach which were to soften her edges and make her more acceptable as a First Lady (remember Bill's first run and the problems Hillary created because she had the image of wanting to be Co President instead of First Lady.)

God forbid the potential president's wife has a successful professional life (as a lawyer, to boot!) besides baking cakes and presiding over charitable work! (And god forbid a woman runs for candidate, too.) We have much progress to make in this particular department.

Status: offline 		Not a "threat" necessarily. Some people just appreciate women who are softer, more feminine. Less masculine... not quite so angry.

It's almost a lifestyle thing, and a president is a lot like a field marshal in some ways, and to many it just seems wrong to elect a woman into that job. It's like a man running a daycare, it's sort of creepy to some.

And thats okay, to each their own kink you might say.

Status: offline 		I have no probvlem with a woman running for an office on her own right. I have no problem with powerful women. I have some problem when a woman who is not elected but holds a cerimonial office by virtue of her marriage to the elected husband and attempts to then be a Co executive. Trying to paint my disagreement as some sort of sexist leaning is dishonest. If Hillary was elected and Bill tried to work as a Co President I'd have a serious problem with Bill. Bottom line is the possition of First Lady is not and never should be a "Co President" if you want that then by god name the spouce as Vice President.

Michelles story is a great success story, I'm not trying to take anything from her. Just pointing out that the speach was good not great and that she had an objective (political/ PR) and that the speach did a good job of meeting that objective.
The difference between an angry person and a powerful one should be plane to see.

Your strawman argument has nothing to do with what I actually wrote, though there are likely as many here who do not appreciate angry women in positions of power as those who do. You are correct that continuing this new debate would be a hijack, and so by all means start your new thread.

Hell I'd love to see a thread just on the issue of female subs/slaves holding those type of jobs. Its my pet peeve but I wouldn't say thats often talked about or represented well within the D/s or Ms circles.
