Ok, I'm a geek.  This discovery of a huge Marcus Aurelius statue is very exciting.  Anyone else and archeology buff?

I saw that too, the statue is absolutely beautiful! Archaelogy fascinates me - I wanted to become an archaelogist when I was little. I gave up upon finding out what a long and arduous path it was...

Hey there,
You know I wanted to study animals in their natural habitat... Asthma stopped me... Sigh.

Years ago i went on a tour of Italy with Smithsonian Adventures.  We got to the Coliseum just at the time they were closing so we couldn't go in.  On the tour we went form one walled town to the next, and then one day, I said to the guide, "Can I take a train or bus back to Rome?  I'd like to go inside the Coliseum."  I mean, I'd been dreaming of that since I was 13!  So she tells me how to do it, and I go and I was the only one who got to go inside.  It was amazing.  And then I met them at a lil restaurant somewhere near the Spanish Steps and I just glowed.   *sigh

Happy Tuesday!

A great find, thank you for sharing, sunshine.

I am also a history and anthro and archeo geek, would love to take a tour of Egypt, Greece and Rome.

I got the bug when the Tutankhamen exhibition came to The british museum back in the 70s, I was only a kid, and stood in line for hours, but I was in rapture. I ended up touring every museum I could come across. Egyptian, Greek, Roman finds  all hold my interest.
What a gorgeous find, gonna have to keep up with that development
I just downloaded a six part series on medieval england too. oh joy
Lucy

Duh, how else would they keep the chariots from driving into the construction areas......

Edited to add: I also noticed what seemed to be reflective paint on the barrier pictured....I wonder if this means the chariots had lamps attached?

A good point well made Professor thishereboi. Also from measuring the big toe of the statue it is clear to see that the Roman's were considerably taller than ourselves.

One of them is they wear big sandals.
