I am of Asian descent and, by comparison to the American diet - I eat strange foods quite often. *lol*

I grew up in New Zealand and love vegemite - my Sir thinks it looks like axle grease.

I have also tried muttonbird (tastes like fish), sea urchins and tripe.   wouldn't do it again.

my x when she was pregnant  with my umm would eat pickled bologna  dipped in a cake mix  ... took every thing I had to watch this happen  lol

coupleowl -> RE: strange foods (8/27/2008 6:39:46 PM)

Let's see. (He) I do french fries in my chocolate shakes, and this one isn't too different. But I like to eat meat that is really dry, almost burnt. It seems to get a couple people annoyed when I take a bite out of a steak so over cooked your can hear the knife sawing through it.
(She) I eat ranch dressing with pretty much everything.

It is tame.  PB & mayo with dill pickles,  now THAT'S a sammie!  Yum.

beargonewild -> RE: strange foods (8/27/2008 6:47:14 PM)

Mmmmm   now that sounds yummy! I love PB & mayo or PB& pickle sammies but never thought to combine the two

Here is a story for you:

There was this guy that I met on this site about two years ago, a Financial Analyst who was really into licking dirty boots -- especially the bottoms of dirty boots.  We agreed that he'd come by and clean both my and my girlfriend's cars in exchange for the privilege of licking our boots.  He did a good job on the cars and a great job on the boots.  She was a Commander in the Air Force at the time and he even dislodged pebbles and other small particles from the grooves in her combat boots.  (We thought it would be fun if I wore my favorite long leather boots and she her combat boots --- nice contrast, right?)  So anyway, he was very comfortable with the idea of sucking dirt and debris from the bottoms of boots but later we went to an ethnic restaurant together and when I was eating goat meat, he was making all sorts of squeamish faces.  I couldn’t believe it!!!

christine1 -> RE: strange foods (8/27/2008 7:19:22 PM)

i love to eat my oreos dipped in coke.  when i was a kid, pickled herring and tongue sandwiches were my favorites.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: strange foods (8/27/2008 7:34:02 PM)

When I was a teenager, I was on a health food kick.  I would drink dessicated liver powder mixed in tomato juice, and brewer's yeast dissolved in warm water.  To get either of these down, I would have to hold my nose before drinking.  Needless to say, the health food kick didn't last long.

Another time during my teen years, I purchased an assortment of chocolate-covered instects at a novelty store and actually consumed a few.

While stationed overseas, I had a snack from a food vendor and was not aware until later it was a dog.
Didn't taste bad, but I love dogs. I was a little upset.

Lynnxz -> RE: strange foods (8/27/2008 10:34:56 PM)

Ugh, stay away from Sea urchin sushi- blech, tastes like you have just licked the inside of a fish bowl... the texture is pretty gnarly too.

When I worked with some Indonesian guys, they'd always make an extra lunch for me. Once they brought this grey pile of *stuff* with a whole quail, a boiled egg, and some fluffy stuff all in a grey sauce. Looked horrible, but tasted great. They called it something like 'Long Tong' ... that's what it sounded like to me.
