It's obvious she was picked just because she is a woman  . Scandalous, this affirmative action thing isn't worthy of the GOP.

Agreed and the way both tickets are constituted it should point out the fact - AA isn't necessary.

Oh?
And what's wrong with a woman V.P.?
And if McCain dies in office, ...a woman President?
She could make history (Herstory) by being the first female V.P. AND the first female President!
Now all of Hillary's voters have another choice.
Kittin, now YOU sound desperate!

Here is what is grating at me about this whole thing. I honestly don't know anything about this woman, certainly not enough to determine whether or not I would want her running the country. Unlike her running mate. I know for a fact I do not want him.

But as for what is bothering me about his choice. I feel she was chosen based upon her gender and very little else. I feel that he thought he was in so much trouble that the only way he would have a chance would be to go shopping for a woman to try and snag all of Hillary's Unhappys. That is what I find offensive as a woman. I would like to hope I am wrong in my suspicion but my gut tells me otherwise. It is as though McCain told his lackys, "Go find me a relatively clean, right leaning, female!" and voila!

I know it seems like a weird gray area, but no one wants to be chosen for a job based upon a facet of themself they came by accidentally. At least I wouldn't want to. I would want to be chosen firstly for my credentials, regardless of gender or race. I just don't feel that is what happened in this case.

The VP is the first runner up should the Pres be unable to perform his duties...a distinct possibility for McCain.

Understood...but think about it...since Johnson and Ford,  who was the last VP in recent history we had who could really have stepped in and done that?

It was George Sr.

There is no way Hubert Humphrey, Spiro Agnew, Walter Mondale, Dan Quayle, Al Gore, or Dick Cheney could have done it. Nelson Rockefeller, maybe.......maybe.

So the only ones who could have done it are the ones who did?

Johnson was only on the ticket to gain Southern votes, he was viewed the same way.  Ford was a buffoon, the Dan Quayle of his time.  Remember Chevy Chase's skits parodying Ford?  Harry Truman wasn't taken seriously as being able to fill FDR's shoes either, until it became reality.

McCain, if elected, will be 76 at the end of his term and, should he be re-elected, 80 at the end of the second term.  His choice means more than someone who will be out doing ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

LT,
Now you know why AA should be abolished. EVERY black man, and every woman has to reconcile the thoughts you raise. Worse they are subject to thoughts that go unspoken among their peers. Government dictated racial/gender preference as a matter of policy. It is the worst form of prejudice and is a fundamental cause of ongoing racism and gender bias.

This move will blow up in McCain's face,he is obviously trying to tap into the disgruntled Hillary supporters and has clearly reached for his selection. She has little national exposure some obvious and troubling clouds on her horizon, in the end the boon of having a female on the ticket will pale in comparison to the drag she will place on the ticket with her issues. The press feeding frenzy over the next 2 weeks is going to tear this woman up...and with it any chance McCain actually had in this election...

At least they have the order correct. On-the-job training for the one with little or no experience, and the one with good experience at the top of the ticket.

I think it's a very odd choice. She's been governor since 2006. Before that mayor of a smallish town. She has a degree in communications and journalism.

Yeah, like the Cheney-Bush ticket.

How will she sell the continual occupation of Iraq.

Probably the same way Barry and Joe will.

Funny how the Democrats are squirming like crazy right now...trying to reassure themselves this doesnt help McCain.

Like I said, analysts are saying McCain hit a home run.

You mean those same analysts that told us for months McCain's candidacy was dead and Hilary was assured the Democratic nomination?

Do you find her presidential?

Why should that matter???

Seriously, I am so tired of this imperialistic attitude that a candidate need to be "presidential"  They tried that one... early on... John Adams and his allies tries to exalt high greetings upon the presidency. His view was that foreign powers would not respect the office if the title was just Mr. President. He opined that there were presidents of cricket clubs. They came up with a slew of showy greetings like His Excellency and Commander and Chief, His Excellency and Protector [of the Constitution] and such. George Washington shut him down cold and pretty much ignored Adams for the next year. I love the fact that she is a common person. A union member married to a union member. A reformist Governor who told Congress to keep its money and put a halt to "The Bridge to Nowhere". A daughter of elementary school teachers, a student athlete who excelled at both. A woman who fought city hall from the inside to stop high property taxes and ran on that issue to be elected to the city council and then Mayor. A wife and Mother of five who chose to give birth to a child with Downs Syndrome. That is a human story, the hell to appearing presidential!!!

Added from the other thread, I would love to see the Prediency returned the people and its about time when have a blue collar wife of a comerical fisherman as President

I heard that on the radio today too.
I think that would be an excellent pick.
Romney is a self made millionaire and Harvard educated businessman.
Plus he doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs, or even drink coffee so it'd be awful hard to dig up any dirt on him.

That won't slow them down a bit, if they can't find any dirt on the man, they will just make some up. And if that doesn't work, they will bitch about Bush some more, they seem to enjoy that.

Those damn Democrats.

Don't put words in my mouth. If you want to judge all democrats or all republicans of being one way, go right ahead. I don't. I am refering to a select group and I notice they are already here with their usual bs.

Why don't you go join them in the corner.....

Palin's history and biography are common knowledge?

Actually much of the bio you posted here is in Wikipedia (which has been altered today), but I haven't seen it anywhere else.

"On September 11, 2007, the Palins' then eighteen-year-old son Track, eldest of five, joined the Army. He now serves in an infantry brigade and will be deployed to Iraq on September 11, 2008."

FatDomDaddy, well said!
I agree!
I LOVE the fact that she's a "commoner" too!
I'm sick and tired of lawyers in politics!
What "experience" can be had to be VP or President anyway?
There's a lot of things that they can't teach you at Harvard business school!
I've said before that I wouldn't mind having a truckdriver as president.
I suppose that McCain could have picked Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans as his V.P.
He's got PLENTY of "executive experience!"
And I'd prefer someone with no "foreign policy experience."
"Foreign policy experience" just means they'd cut more "foreign aid" checks.
***YahooNews said that there were more than 100 "foreign diplomats" at the DNC!***
Gee, I wonder what (they) were doing there?
Sizing up potential Obama workers to put the arm on for "foreign aid" money?
The people in Washington forget just ***who*** that money belongs to!

Yes, as I said, I read the Wikipedia entry. This is from MSNBC:
Private First Class Track Palin is an infantry soldier, assigned to the 1-1 Bravo Company, 52nd Infantry Regiment.  (We are checking whether PFC Palin's company is deploying to Iraq later this fall with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division out of Fort Wainwright.)

Joe Biden’s son, Beau, is also scheduled to be heading to Iraq before the end of the year.
